When thousands of people from all over Germany and all manner of countries around Europe descend upon Mannheim in March to become part of the Time Warp Festival for Jetztmusik and Media Art, there’s simply no doubting that ‘Music connects!’ Just listen to this year’s double-CD compilation for the event, compiled and mixed by DJ Rush, and it’s perfectly crystal clear.

Following in the footsteps of DJ Hell, Tiefschwarz and Loco Dice, DJ Rush’s stab at the 2008 Time Warp Compilation shows how the event brings together the past and future of electronic music and what forms of surprising new aspects arise at the Time Warp in Mannheim.

In 2008, the festival will be presenting a whole variety of genres of electronic music in Mannheim and will also be focusing on adjoining areas, such as media arts and film. The Time Warp in the Maimarkthalle will once again mark the final event, and highlight, of the festival week from 29 March until 5 April. This year won’t just see another rare joint appearance by the ‘Big Four’ of the electronic music scene – Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier – but a whole range of other high potentials from today’s club scene performing.

The energy of the festival is presented in compilation form, with one of Time Warp’s regulars behind the decks taking responsibility for the mix. The ‘major’ from Chicago has invigorated several Time Warps with his extraordinarily frenetic sets, which also leave nothing to be desired when it comes to unique mixing skills. DJ Rush, also known as Kne’Deep, has been releasing tracks himself from more than one and a half decades on renowned international labels like Force Inc. and Djax up and knows exactly how much bone dry funk his tracks need to get booties shaking. And it’s also the hallmark of the man when he’s at the wheels of steel.
His selection of tracks for the compilation is cutting edge. The first CD shows the DJ Rush, as we know and love him, filling dancefloors with a loyal congregation of fans around him. No-frills music full of oomph is combined with classics like ‘Doing it to death’ by DJ Rush himself (in an exclusive Time Warp compilation remake by the master) and with music by young artists like Felix Kröcher or Spiros Kaloumenous from Greece in an end-to-end hi-energy set.

The second CD shows a different side of the man from Chicago, often hinted at in his sets: his idiosyncratic versatility. In a colourful mix, DJ Rush combines electronic music from all genres. Tracks with house influences are segued into acid sounds, old hands like Adam Beyer (who also put together a Time Warp compilation) make an appearance, there’s a Joey Beltram remix, and aspiring talents like Pick Pocket are also featured. Further highlights include: Bear Who? – The Beat Box (DJ Rush Remix), DJ Urban – You work it (Joey Beltram Remix), Mark Eg + Chrisi – Over Load, Pair of Jacks – Knob Job, C’pen – Spanish Robot and many more!
