Biography of Nick Ac
Nick discovered London's electronic music scene in the early 90's and was instantly hooked. Trips to The Rocket, Club UK, and Eurobeat 2000 helped introduce him to the sounds coming out of Detroit, Germany and the UK.
'The whole club experience was really exciting at that time. The music sounded fresh and innovative.'
At 16 Nick purchased his first set of turntables and has never looked back. Early on he explored everything from electronic releases on Warp records such as 'Artificial Intelligence' to ambient artists such as Irresistible Force and Richard H Kirk; and from club-orientated creations on Eye-Q Records and Harthouse to the early goa influenced releases on Dragonfly Records.
'It was always a combination of sounds - the futuristic, electronic and emotive that were really appealing to me.'
In 1998 Nick moved to Manchester. His first break came with the offer of a job at the club Sankey's Soap, the home of Tribal Gathering and Tribal Sessions [www.tribalgathering.co.uk] - one of the UK's most notorious club nights. Inspired, Nick set up and promoted the successful dub/reggae party 'Luvdub' at the unique Mancunian venue, Band on the Wall and also found time to help promote Prime Distribution's 'Intergalactik Funk' at Manchester's Music Box that brought in the likes of Adam Beyer, Umek and Oliver Ho. Nick could be found in venues all across Manchester either promoting or spinning tunes ranging from techno to dub, alongside artists as varied as Sven Vath, Jah Shakka and Andrew Weatherall.
In 2001 Nick met Mike Bindra (previously of Twilo, New York) and accepted the opportunity to work with him. So New York's iconic Vinyl became the landmark club, arc. [www.arcspace.net]. From the start the emphasis was firmly on the music and Nick had the freedom to treat the East Coast to a wide range of artists including Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Steve Bug, Josh Wink, Deep Dish, Chris Liebing, and Danny Howells. Nick helped establish arc as the premier venue for electronic music and hosted the internationally celebrated Friday night party 'Be Yourself' with Danny Tenaglia.
His passion for DJ-ing and keeping the scene pushing forwards lead Nick to set up ROBOTS [www.wearerobots.net] in 2004, exposing talent to new fans and veterans alike.
'The idea was about pushing a variety of artists from electro, to minimal house, to techno...'
Nick established the party as a weekly event but soon added bigger one-off monthly shows to accommodate the rise in its popularity, DJ-ing along side the likes of Michael Mayer, Jake Fairley, Magda, Run Stop Restore, Scape One, Tony Rhor, Mathew Dear, Jeff Samuel, Marco Carola, Matthew French, Andy Vaz, Radioactive Man, Cari Lekebusch, Superpitcher, Damien Lazarus, Jeremy Caulfield, Michele De Hey, and Tobi Neumann. With an extremely loyal following ROBOTS has gained worldwide recognition and become one of New York's most acclaimed parties. Nick has seen his reputation and fan base grow considerably.
2005 has so far seen Nick team up with Chris Liebing on his bi-monthly residency at Avalon New York, hold a packed party down at Miami's Winter Music Conference with Sven Vath and complete the One Year Anniversary with Robots wrapping up a very positive start to the year.
Whether promoting, producing, or DJ-ing, Nick's ambition is clear. To be at the forefront of the electronic music scene and bring the best of his music to the people.
