Biography of Aaron Spectre

aaron spectre makes digital sounds with a distorted soul, fragile melodies sprinkled with urban grit, grime layered over dense harmonies. grown in boston, hardened in the nyc pressure cooker, and engineered in berlin, aaron works in a number of different styles from ambient to glitchy melodic electronica to breakcore to ragga jungle.

aaron's live sets reveal his hardcore + punk roots, in aesthetic if not in sound. refusing to sit motionless behind a laptop, he tweaks and re-works tracks on the fly with varoius midi controllers, hammered dulcimer, plus a bundle of energy and diy enthusiasm. aaron has played throughout europe and north america, with artists such as mixmaster morris, richard devine, dj vadim, krust + die, hrvatski, /rupture, datach'i, soundmurderer, infected mushroom, and hallucinogen.

Comment: ruff rugg ruff ragga. rude bwoy tings. The crazy hardcore stuff is bit over to top, but those raga break downs are killah. Baselines are wicked.

Comment: I thought Id give this a try but don't really like the style. Guess jungle isn't for me. but I gave it a good rating anywayh - don't want to screw up the rating just because of my experimentation :)

Comment: man i never thought that this dj was gonna be good just by looking at his insane picture. but after listening to this mix i really thought that i was a good one. i like his raggae/hardcore mix and it kinda flows. usually raggae and hardcore dont mix at all but i think that he did a good job at making it work.

Comment: I have to say that I did not like this that much. It's super hard, but not to my taste. Don't get me wrong, usually the harder and nastier it is, the more I like it. But this gave me a headache just from the sheer harshness of it. If that's what you're into though, this one is perfect.

Comment: I must admit I was taken by surprise here. Ragga breakcore is not generally what I would choose to listen to. In the first few assaulting minutes I did not know what to think. Soon, however, I found myself down with the dirty rhythms this guy kept laying down. The way this mix is assembled is superb. Spectre is unquestionably skilled at what he does. His selection is tight. This is a break-fest, full of grunge and rinse-out material. It is truly heavy metal, ragga, hardcore and hardstep D&B twisted together in an adventurous and hectic mixset. Totally worth the experience, like it or not.

Comment: An absolute corker of a set! Ragga mashup breakcore badness, not for the faint of heart, crackin breakdowns and turbulent bas*ard beats! Mr Spectre takes us on a fearfull journey full of insanity and sickness, tight with bite too and great flow! I hope he plays at Bangface this year, that would blow my mind! Dig out the Elacins, this mans nasty!

Comment: this set is another one of Aaron spectre good sets he always brings the quality drum and bass, and mashup up and makes you want more. I would recommend this set to anyone that does not have it. However if you have his other stuff you might not be that impressed

Comment: I never did like breakcore, but the addition of reggae really changes things as it really gives it the right sort of energy that I didn't think was possible. I'll be sure to listen to more Drumcorps.

Comment: Aaron Spectre........well it's Good .....not really what I'm into normally........would like to hear this in a club when I'm fairly mashed and it would go down a treat...dare I say it ..this is fairly "straight up" music in my experience of jungletek/breakcore......this set is accessable and not that crazy.

Comment: great set, really cool construction, Aaron Spectre thinks about the whole picture before he starts to mix, its really hard to keep such an intense unity in your set when mixing voices that where originally separated songs, the guy does great. Can't stop listening to it, just got into jungle recently cause i used to listen to much harder stuff, this set is an incredible transition or me!!
