Biography of Ronin Selecta w/MC Play
Aaren is the dnb crusader of Detroit in my opinion. Having played at DEMF 2000, all over the midwest and even Groovetech in San Fransisco, Aaren is about as knowledgeble as they come regarding drum&bass. Always laying down solid sets with maximum precision.
- Ronin: The name, Ronin, was inspired by the Japanese unindentured or maverick samurai, called ronin or 'wave men'(coming from ro =wave and nin =person) because they were cast from a secure niche, onto the waves of change.
Ask any of the heads in the city of Detroit, and they will know of the Ronin . ( Or have at least heard of him.) For four years now, the Ronin selector (Aaren Alseri) has made a selfless effort to push Jungle/Drum & Bass in the club/rave scene in Michigan. First introduced to the early Ragga-dub-esque sounds of Jungle in '94-95, Aaren has faithfully kept up with the music's evolution, to its current state; Drum & Bass. The Ronin seeks to win over clubbers and music listeners alike. Avoiding the flavor-of-the-week track selections, Aaren chooses timeless and aurally challenging music, to stimulate and educate its listeners. Already a favorite monthly resident at Family@Motor Lounge, and featured at the the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Aaren has also hosted two nights, one being 'Kinetics', a Jungle club night at the Labyrinth that also hosted live web broadcasters and was featured and interviewed on the New York web show 'Velocity', hosted by DJ Dara of Breakbeat Science, and more recently, a night called 'Champion Sound System' held at the Magic Stick, which specialized in Dancehall, Hip Hop, Rare Groove & Jungle. Ronin has had exposure to stateside scenes in New York, San Francisco, and Toronto. Aaren is accustomed to working a crowd and strives to come with the same impact.
