Biography of Claro Intelecto

One of the central producers on Manchester's IDM-oriented Ai label, Mark Stewart debuted his Claro Intelecto alias in 2003 with the Peace of Mind 12'. Both tracks from the A-side fared well; the title cut wound up on several year-end DJ lists and 'Contact' was included on Ricardo Villalobos' Taka Taka mix album. In early 2004, Stewart released a second 12' (Section), and a full-length -- Neurofibro, named after a genetic disease that he has suffered from -- followed in late April. As with most of his labelmates, Stewart gleans inspiration from early electro and Detroit techno (Afrika Bambaataa, Model 500, Drexciya), along with U.K. IDM labels like Warp, Skam, and Rephlex.

Comment: Fantastic stuff from claro intellecto. Mostly tracks from his recent album. Live tracks are ably mixed and blended together too. Soulful and sometimes quite meloncholic but still uplifting.

Comment: 8-) This is a slick and uber-cool set from one of the UK's best underground house DJ's. I've had the privilege of seeing him live last year @ Default in Birmingham and have loved his ideas since then. This set is a wicked variation on the Detroit sound, mixed perfectly, and to cap it off, the quality of the recording is great.

Comment: Superb mix. Starts off slow and melodic and gets deeper into the techno groove and ends a little breaky. I liked the eclectic diversity of the music and it kept my attention all the way through. Very nice

Comment: This is a solid live set, sequenced like a DJ mix. Many of his early tracks, now considered classics, are featured, including "piece of mind (electrosoul)" a stand out with this live version. I admire the way he fuses the detroit techno blueprint with the minimal, slightly-indstrial sound that is no doubt a reflection of the Manchester environment he lives in and the early Sheffield bleep sound. He manages to keep things hard, with a dank, warehouse vibe but imparts those melodic touches that are so memorable to most good dance music. Highly recommended.

Comment: This is such a classy live set from Claro Intelecto. He manages to blend together so many different moods and tempos with tracks ranging from pure IDM to the more darker and percussive sounds of his Warehouse Sessions. If you love IDM, deep Detroit techno and early electro, you will definitely not be disappointed by this cracking set.
