Biography of Miles Maeda

One spring day back in 1989, Miles got sick and tired of his orchestral aspirations and symphonic day-dreams and decided to hang out with his hardcore industrial/glam friends who were hot about this thing they were calling house music. And as it turned out, this music was not just ordinary house; it was in fact acid house (and we all know what happens once that gets going). Ears perked and consciousness altered, Miles' life would never be the same again.

Quickly scooting out of his academic setting, Miles settled in the urban jungle of Chicago where he proceeded to merge the worlds of the budding nitrous dead-head/candy-flipping raver scene with the cracked out club-kid/alcoholic loft party clans, helping to shape what became the second wave of legendary (nay infamous) Chicago DJs, parties and promoters. But as much as Miles tried to immortalize himself through these endeavors as well as through an over-achieving opus of studio recordings, he ducked the wave and opted for the more modest occupation of slacking.

Having suffered the sweltering heat and life threatening cold of Chi-town as well as a serious lack of creativity, Miles made his way to the temperate climate of southern California. Far from his friends of the Midwest, he holed himself up and continued to create quiet masterpieces and reflect on life, love and happiness. It was then that he discovered his love for spiritual practice, so he dug deeper into the bowels of his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and inspiration and realized he had a calling to be of service, a Bodhisattva if you will, to all the beings of the party world!

Once all that got straightened out, Miles reemerged with a vengeance! Working to realize his 80s nuwave and 90s happy house dreams, he began producing such tracks that would challenge the sampling nature of the bootleg kings themselves (sssh, don't tell anybody). He also created a traveling love show and toured the country with his band of misfits, leaving a trail of bewilderment and disbelief wherever he went. Eventually, he settled back down in San Diego to focus on how to produce the enlightening music that would change the world (or at least help pay the bills).

With his production assembly line in full force, there will be no shortage of Miles over the next few years. He's beginning his first ever trips overseas to showcase his latest DJing and production endeavors. So if you catch him in person, you're in for a real treat! His influences include Steve Reich, Brian Eno, The Black Dog, Derrick Carter, Cabaret Voltaire, Gary Numan, Nitzer Ebb, Larry Heard, Osho, Gyorgy Ligeti, David Sylvian/Japan, Kraftwerk, Mixmaster Morris, Klaus Nomi, David Bowie, Mark Farina, Duran Duran, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode and St. Etienne.
