Biography of Sierra Sam

I've been making music since I was 14, started playing drums, bass in some crappy bands. Got into electronic music with one of those bands as we decided to work on some recordings. It was the home studio time with Pro 24 on Atari, S900 sampler, DX7 all synchronised to a 8 tracks recorder with Midex. it was around 1988. I really got into it. My first 'techno' release came in 1993, was not really good. We founded a collective named 6th Sense Approach, back in 1994. We threw tons of underground parties in weird venues and spent all after parties in a friend's studio. Summer 1995 came the first release, a 7 tracks record with 22 minutes per side (sounded crap). Reload records got it and signed the band with a rerelease of 4 tracks. We did 5 eps and 1 album for them. Since then, I recorded for Rotation, Pure Plastic, Generations R&S, Teknotika, Dark Print, Bipolar, Muller, Tresor, Space Factory Disques, Pornflake. In 1996 I met James Pennington, we became very good friends and started making music together. In 1998 I helped him on the Suburban Knight live project. We played a lot and rehearsed a lot. During those rehearsals, new music was made. We finished the tracks and released an album on Peacefrog. We kept on playing, making tracks (Gerome Sportelli, my partner on The Sense joined the project) and we released 2 eps on Dark Print. I always been into Koln sound as I lived 100 km from the German city. I remember going to Delirium record store to buy Profan records. In 1999 we played Matrix club in Zurich (The Sense live + Suburban Knight dj). A crazy guy was dancing in front of us (really enjoying our set). later on, he was playing room two, I loved his set, we became friends, his name was Ricardo Villalobos. That night, my musical views totally changed, Ricardo gave me some of his records, I kept on buying his music, tried to see him play as much as I could. I have to thank him for that. Now I make music for UMF, Trapez ltd. ,. and co run Toys For Boys records with one of my best friends Marcus Vector, we start 2 new labels (Nomor and Obsolete) and I release my first album on Surprise records (with 2 eps) I used to work as A&R for Audiopolis label group for 2 years, and I recently relocated to Berlin where I am label manager for Contexterrior Media. I run Contexterrior, Future Dub, Tuning Spork and Junion for my beloved friend Jay Haze. I am still a member of the Legendz crew in Belgium, parties we run with Solead Tosin, Antoine Vermiglio and Mat Mat 'Surfing Leons ' Fonsny. We have this crazy project of an indoor festival together with Carlo and Alex from Dour. exciting!!!! As far as releases, I kinda try to stick with Toys For Boys, Nomor and I still have to do something on Obsolete.
