Biography of Xela

John Xela is one of the owners of Type. After seeing the surge of pure 'IDM' labels and breakcore/dance oriented music overflowing throughout the scene, he decided it was high time for a record imprint with a bit oif a softer touch.

John's music has become quite well known since the release of his album 'For Frosty Mornings And Summer Nights' on Neo Ouija. This has become something of a blueprint for the soft sound of the club night Default which he runs in Birmingham, and this sound is something which trickles through into the world of Type.

John also records for legendary label City Centre Offices and has an album out in Summer 2003 under the 'Yasume' alias (with writing partner and Type artist Logreybeam). This record is entitled 'Where We're From The Birds Sing A Pretty Song' and is a blend of abrasive DSP beats and soft soundtrack-influenced washes and drones.

October 2004

A mix made using tracks that have been released or sent to me in the beautiful year of 2004. The world may be dying but music definately isn't.

Tracklisting : This mix was in some way influenced by a trip to America (where much cd/vinyl purchasing was done) and copious amounts of maple syrup and pancakes.

For anyone that's interested here's a decent recipe for pancakes (I know I've tried it).

Comment: Very relaxing set, made of a melancholic sounds, to listen closing your eyes. Sometimes ambient, slow jazz, organ sounds, in short a quiet ocean which calms you. Enjoy !
