Whetu Kay aka Phetsta was introduced to the D'n'B sound via Bad Company, Konflict, Virus, RAM, Audio Blueprint/Underfire, Dom & Roland....'99-2001 stuff. He started producing in 2001. After several years Phetsta linked up with Rregula in 2004 to form Bad Robot.
Time was juggled between solo production and Bad Robot for the remainder of '04. Phetsta linked up with Adelaide's Djon the same year, remixing his and Skyver's 'Start the Riot'. After a trip to Adelaide and a very messy week of partying the remix ended out catching the ear of Technique's Bassline Smith who released it on his WAR label in early 2005 and signed Phetsta exclusively to Technique Recordings.
With his first solo single under his belt and recent radio support from the likes of Grooverider and Hype, Technique's HUGE 'Street Technique LP' was the most next outlet for Phetsta's tracks. Four tunes, 'Blur' (DJ Mags' tune of the Month - May 2006), 'Mako', 'Intergalactic' and 'Gimme Somethin'Remix', stormed the worlds dancefloors thanks to the likes of Andy C, Bryan Gee, Mampi, Fresh, The Technique Crew and many more.
On the Bad Robot front, Phetsta & Rregula have ongoing releases with Habit Recordings, and have dropped tracks recently for Black Sun Empire's 'Endangered Species LP' and Technique, with more to come on labels such as Incite, Viper and Renegade.
2007 started with a bang with the release of 'The Congo EP' on Technique featuring brand new tracks 'Evolution', 'The Congo' and 'Dutty Funk' plus a VIP of 'The Bloodening' and a remix of Bassline Smith & Drumsound's anthem 'Booty Call' on 12'. Both the EP & Bassline Smith & Drumsound's 'Skumbag VIP' backed with 'Booty Call Remix' held onto the UK top 10 DnB sales charts for several weeks, with heavy rotation on Radio 1 & 1 Extra.
Phetsta DJ's regularly both solo and with Rregula (as Bad Robot and holds a residency in his hometown at 'The Nine' alongside Muller, Sardi & Shockone). He has played across Australia and USA, supporting acts such as Matrix & Futurebound, Teebee & Pendulum.
Phetsta has also appeared on Aquasky's Passenger Recordings, and on Mampi Swift's Charge for remix duties. Phetsta has recently joined forces with Shockone to work on several collaborations featuring live vocals, guitar and bass.
