Biography of Cotumo

Born in 1981 Cotumo grew up in a small German state close to the French border called Saarland. Since the age of 14 he was strongly into early Trip Hop, nu jazz and dub, which still greatly influence his style today. At the age of 18 Cotumo started exploring more of Germany until he finally settled in Berlin in 2003.

Inspired by artists like Matthew Herbert and Akufen, Cotumo began thinking about sharing his music through playing in Clubs. Finding his alter ego 'Cotumo', he started sampling and mixing with the open source software hummingbird when he became acquainted with Must Ruut and Regularalex. In spring 2004 they started a club series called skikt! at the NBI, where he performed live, playing styles from click tech over dub to tech house.

After some months performing weekly at the NBI, Cotumo began playing at some larger events like parties at the WMF, or the Marian's Days festival. Nowadays Cotumo continously plays at Pentagonik, Pyonen, Hoervergnuegen, Pulsar, Klangsucht, Süss&Sauer and Netlag parties and at a variety of festivals and clubs in and around Berlin and Europe e.g. in London, Wales, Turin, Zuerich, Graz...

Cotumo organizes a party series with his cousin µ~, called 'Club der Dilettanten', where 15 deejays play five of their most loved records. Since 2007 they collaborate also as a dj-team under the pseudonym Vetternwirtschaft.

Besides his dj-acts Cotumo is also mixing netaudio releases using Traktor Scratch. For example in his quite popular Unfoundsound labelmix. His mixes are being broadcasted on Deepmix, Proton Radio, Pulse Radio, Chaosradio, fm4, x-cile, 98eins and many more.

In 2008, Cotumo started producing and will come up with his debut EP 'Underkill' with remixes by Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Lars Wickinger and Toby Dreher. He also started a live project with The Ascent under the alias Aka Aka.
