MC Verse's long lived career in Drum and Bass started in Leeds in 1996. Securing his first residency at a nightclub called DOPE, or Development Of Progressive Energy, Verse stormed the club every weekend along with the likes of Marcus Intalex, Glen from A.I. and TC1. It was one of these weekends that Verse met Clayton F of Renegade Hardware, a pioneering record label in the Drum and Bass industry. Recognizing his talent and and stage pressence, Clayton gave him his first gig at The End in 1998.
Since that night in London Verse's career has soared.. Performing extensively throughout the UK, Europe, Japan, America, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, the only continent to have missed out on witnessing Verse in action is Antarctica. Expanding far from his roots at DOPE, Verse now holds residencies for Renegade Hardware and Ram in London at The End, and at Fabric. Working for major labels in the Drum and Bass world has given Verse the opportunity to MC alongside every A-list DJ in the scene. Learning and adapting from his experiences both on stage and in the studio, Verse's skill and capability in all things musical have reached new heights.
His MCing style is original and fluid. Possessing the ability to read and analyse a set, Verse complements the music without stressing it and works up the crowd whatever language they may speak. His musical influences originate from all angles of contemporary music. Everything from hip-hop to acid jazz, funk to rock, dub to techno, trance to acid house and all tunes between make their mark in Verse's collection of catalyzing tracks.
For the past two years Verse has enjoyed extraordinary success as the MC for Pendulum's DJ sets. As the Pendulum phenomenon storms the globe due to the unbelievable success of their debut album and the insatiable demand of their ever expanding fan base, Verse's diary has consequently been loaded with world-spanning tours well into 2008.
He's not just restraining himself to the conquering the stage, however, as he has recently emerged as one of the new wave of select producers to watch out for. In addition to Crunch, his own imprint which he launched back in 2004, Verse also has releases on Renegade Hardware, Vision, Refuge Audio, Outbreak, Sanctuary and Architecture. Verse recently laid down vocals for a new track on Teebee & Calyx's new album Anatomy. Entitled 'Dual Processed', this track will be an awesome follow up to the 2006 smash hit 'Choke' for which Verse collaborated with Noisia and Mayhem.
2008 year will also see the release of Verse's debut album, due out on Crunch. Featuring seven previously unreleased solo tracks and numerous tasty collaborations, on top of remixes of the Crunch back catalogue from the likes of Teebee & Calyx, Nutone, Logistics and Break, it is set to move the Drum and Bass world. The album's release will be inaugurated with a European tour, which will mark Verse's official drop into the realm of the DJ. With the launch of Crunch Recording's website and online store, soon to be bursting at the seams with exclusive merchandise, things are definitely rollin'.
