Biography of DJ Eleven

DJ Eleven began his career in Oakland, CA as a founder of Local 1200, a crew that includes the most sought-after club DJs in the Bay Area. Working and living in New York City for 6 years, Eleven uses his large, diverse music collection and extensive experience to keep crowds moving in the hottest nightspots on both coasts.

Eleven has moved crowds at high-profile events such as Spitkickers monthly party in NYC (founded by esteemed hip-hop MC Talib Kweli and members of De La Soul) and the 5-year anniversary of Philadelphias longest-running hip-hop party, Remedy 215. During the summer of 2003, Eleven served as tour DJ for the Nike Battleground Tour street ball tournament. Hes also spun at issue release parties for Mugshot Magazine and Wax Poetics and private parties for And1, Universal Music Group, Motown Records, and Complex Magazine

This DJs greatest strength is his uncanny ability to get any crowd out of their seats and keep them dancing all night long. His wide musical range allows him to spin sets including Hip-Hop/ contemporary R&B, Breaks and Rare Grooves, Disco/Funk/Soul, Reggae, and 80s, with the skill that brings party people back for more.

In addition to being an in-demand party DJ, Eleven also shares his musical knowledge by contributing articles to Mugshot, Scratch, Tablist, Wax Poetics, Mass Appeal, Undercover (UK), and a monthly column to Hip Hop Connection (UK). He produces critically acclaimed mix CDs, including his own series Soul Vols. 1-3 and Party &Bullshit Vol. 1-5, as well as Im Rick James, B---!, The Glamorous Life, and numerous hip hop mix CDs hosted by artists such as De La Soul, Talib Kweli, and M.F. Doom, which have been written about in media outlets as diverse as The Fader, Spin, and The New York Times. But his experience is not limited to being a scribe and selector. Eleven also held positions in A&R and Production at the now-defunct underground hip hop stronghold Rawkus Records and serves as East Coast Marketing Director for soul phenom Goapeles label, Skyblaze Music.

DJ Eleven has rocked hot spots in London, Honolulu, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas and held down residencies in New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Hes currently a resident at The Rub, which was recently recognized as the Best Party in NYC by the New York Press and the Best Party in Brooklyn to Dance Sweatily to Smart Music by The Village Voice. In addition to just completing a West Coast Tour, The Rub and its first official mixCD release have received press in Giant Robot, Blender, Spin, and Vapors. And, to top it all off, Eleven had to chance to DJ alongside such notables as DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, DJ Spinna, Lord Sear, Mighty Mi, ?uestLove from The Roots, DJ Apollo, Qool DJ Marv, DJ Evil Dee, DJ Cosmo Baker, DJ Ayres, Tony Touch, and Grandmaster Flash.
