Biography of Afternoon Coffee Boys

As close neighbors in Brooklyn, New York, American techno all-stars Tim Xavier and Tony Rohr decided to combine their knowledge and talents in the studio. Having countless releases on many high profile labels and a varied history of production techniques, they had a good idea of each other's artistic direction and capabilities. One thing they both agreed on is that most of the minimal being pumped out from labels lacked energy. It's cool, it's sexy... but it doesn't get you jumping around and crazy like good old fashioned techno. With this project, they wanted to harness all the energy of older tracks and squeeeeeze it into the tiny box of minimal. Tough work, but the result was unstoppable.

Choosing the moniker Afternoon Coffee Boys, Tim and Tony released their collaborative debut in the fall of 2005 on Clink Recordings, titled 'Dark Blend' (Clink 001). It was a runaway hit, placing #12 on Germany's prestigious Groove chart, in addition to being in many of the top jocks record crates and personal charts. This set the stage for the successful follow up EP on Sven Vath's label, Cocoon, titled 'Glitches Brew', with many more remixes and releases to come. Both transplants from the Midwest, Tim and Tony's careers started in techno. Tim rocked American techno fans for years with his releases on legendary labels such as Advanced, Blueline, and Default. Hard, dark beats and energetic percussion made Xavier's records a favorite with DJs worldwide, and his natural shift to slow things down became apparent with his two new imprints: LTD400 and Klickhaus. Tony has built a consistent and strong catalogue of releases over the years on labels like Cocoon, Clink, Weave, Hidden Agenda and Electric Avenue. Tony's records have steadily grown in popularity and he now finds himself traveling internationally almost weekly, with a strong following for his floor-moving live PAs.

As a live act, Tim and Tony have created a slamming duet that ranges over all of their production: solo, together, minimal and hard. Combining Tim's shuffled, dark percussion and Tony's signature, party-time synth manipulations has made them a force to be reckoned with.
