In 1996, DJ Void first experienced Drum & Bass whilst at University in Hull through the New Horizons events. Inspired and captivated by guest DJs such as the legendry Kemistry & Storm, Doc Scott and LTJ Bukem and hooked on Radio One's 'One In The Jungle' it was a natural progression to get decks and in 1998 to start mixing. Starting out by playing house parties and University events he soon moved on and though persistent self promotion secured residencies at a number of small events in London and played at events such as Pure Science in Maidstone and the Best Of British at legendry rave venue, Bagley's.
Things progressed swiftly and self promotion paid off further leading to international gigs in Belgium and Orlando, USA and plays at events and venues such as Raindance, Cargo, Electrowerkz and The Big Chill Bar plus the Carling Weekend: Leeds and Reading Festivals 2004 playing slots between headline acts in the Dance tent followed with a 3 hour warm-up set at Rahzel and Mike Patton's sold out show at the Mean Fiddler (LA2), London. In July 2006 he was chosen as a finalist for the Rebirth Summer Gathering DJ competition.
Building on radio experience from slots on University radio and FlashFM.com, DJ Void featured for a year on London's leading Drum & Bass station, Rude FM 88.2 and was featured in the mix on BBC 1Xtra's Breaking New Talent slot in November 2005. Since April 2007 he has been producing fortnightly podcasts for Phuture Frequency radio and pfradio.com. Choosing to hone his DJ skills further and begin producing, DJ Void spent studio time with breaks producer XFile to produce his debut track 'Extinction' and spent the academic year 2004/2005 studying at the Vestax DJ Academy at the Academy of Contemporary Music, Guildford where he won the Outstanding DJ of the Year award.
DJ Void has also shown his eclectic side playing everything from Rock to Hip-Hop at events for the charity project Attitude Is Everything and has supported a blind DJ during her sets. DJ Void has shown a unique diversity, able to mix the light and dark ends of the Drum & Bass spectrum and produce rolling sets utilising productions by both old skool producers such as Digital, Photek and Blame and the new breed such as Break, Silent Witness and Commix.
