Biography of DJ Simon 'Bassline' Smith

influenced by his love of underground funk, soul and hip-hop the infamous simon 'bassline' smith started spinning the decks at an early age. at this point in his life he was setting the stage for the rest of his musical career by pioneering the sound of the underground all over the u.k which was the basis of the rave scene as we know it today. he was given the name 'bassline' after destroying the majority
of the speakers at the parties at which he played.

as the underground rave scene progressed in the early 1990's simon 'bassline' smith was at the forefront, playing for some of the biggest dance organizations
in the country such as : perception, methology,
rain dance, dance '91 and world dance. along side grooverider, fabio, mickey finn and jumping' jack frost simon was spearheading the new musical form ( jungle ) now known as drum & bass.

simon quickly set up his own label, called absolute 2, which at the time, was one of the only drum & bass labels in the world. it was a label which gave birth to now legendary producers such as: - doc scott, nookie,
ray keith and danny c ( twisted anger / primary motive ) with anthems such as:- the surgery e.p, give a little love and the controversial news at ten.

with the success of absolute 2, under his belt simon began his career as a producer. he was an instant success with anthems such as:- the music and life e.p, palomino and midnite which can still be heard in sets by goldie even to this day. his musical style was, to say the least, ahead of its time. over the years simon has released tunes on numerous compilations as well as on such reputable labels as deejay recordings, absolute zero, deejay's delight, death becomes me and of course
his own label absolute 2.

in the 1998 the paths of simon 'bassline' smith and, a relatively unknown bunch of dj's / producers called, drumsound crossed. their mutual understanding and musical tastes were the defining factor which initially brought them together and it was soon decided that a combined imprint should
be formed in order to showcase their joint / individual projects technique recordings was born.

over the last year or so bassline and the rest of the drumsound crew have released 6 tunes on their own label, including the distortion in sound e.p and their latest epic 'i need your love'. these tunes have gained cult underground status on the underground drum & bass scene worldwide. they have also had releases through mickey finn's urban takeover, dj ss's formation and l.double's flex.

since its conception technique recordings, simon and drumsound have gone from strength to strength utilizing their knowledge and enthusiasm to build an imprint of global proportion. their success has been created through the ability to work tightly as a team and to progress as one formidable unit. simon has spread the technique sound over every continent over the last few years
and the rest they say is history.
