Born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Detroit, Derek Chase a.k.a. Dilemma has been exposed to a wide variety of music growing up. You can hear his early influences from 80's punk rock, Miami Bass, old school hip-hop and jungle/D&B in his track selections today. It was his early jungle/D&B influences that landed him a residency at the world renowned Motor Lounge from 1998 till 2000. As part of the weekly Tuesday night called 'Family' Dilemma shared his residency with well known locals such as the Ronin Selecta and Detroit natives Lauren Flax and Derek Plaslaiko as well as Brian Gillespie, SK1, Krus Kontrol and others. In the year 2001 Jungle Juice Productions was created by Dilemma and so began a series of one off events at Motor with artists such as Aphrodite, POTD, and Bad Company UK (EIB). In the several years to follow, much of Dilemmas time was spent improving his skills behind the decks and building up his collection of his new found love, Nu-Skool Breaks. Since the day he discovered this bass heavy, slower tempo European breakbeat sound he has been hooked. So much so that in 2004 Dilemma began what was to be Detroits first even breakbeat monthly - Breakloose. Since its birth Breakloose has seen world renowned artists such as Simply Jeff, Chris Carter, Deekline and Wizard & ED 209, and is now considered one of Detroits top showcases of local talent in the electronic music scene.
