Reaching out with a sound that has truly global appeal, he’s toured the world over from Europe to North and South America to Asia and back. This year he’s on the road again and has already touched down in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Korea and shows no signs of stopping just yet! As a DJ, A Sides is technically flawless and incredibley versatile, mixing up a range of styles always rocking the dancefloor. Watch out for tracks from his new label, BassHead Music, and more forthcoming on Eastside and others in 2008.
Jason Cambridge (aka A Sides) has been producing music since 1990 and has released well over 500 tracks to date across many of the scene’s biggest labels. He established his own label Eastside Records in 1996 and has since put out over 75 releases, including two compilation albums (Eastside Jamz Volumes 1 & 2) as well as the A Sides solo album 'Follow The Groove.' A highly accomplished engineer as well as an artist in his own right, A Sides has collaborated with the likes of Calibre, jazz musician Nathan Haines (under the guise of Sci-Clone) and most recently Makoto and DJ Marky. His long-standing partnership with MC Fats has borne some of his biggest tracks to date, including the massive hit ‘What U Don’t Know’ which featured on A Sides’ debut long-player ‘Follow the Groove’ (Eastside Records, 2003). To catch the pair performing live is to hear drum and bass at it’s finest, with the deep soul sound of MC Fats bringing the perfect compliment to A Sides razor sharp beats.
With tracks released on many other labels such as Metalheadz, Valve, True Playaz, Bingo, Innerground, Reinforced, Advanced, Liq-weed Ganja, Hospital to name but a few, A Sides has a discography of truly epic proportions. A veteran of the scene from the early days, through hardcore to jungle to drum and bass, his influence has been immense. Over the years he’s taken on the role A&R for many labels, including of course his own imprints Fuze and Eastside, and was among the first to recognize and nurture the talent of producers such as Break.
Always moving forward and shaping new styles, he’s recently established BassHead Music together with Miami’s own DJ Burn to showcase the finest in dubstep and bass heavy beats. Adding another alias to an ever-growing list, he’s been producing for the label under the name Code 305 and, not surprisingly, been causing quite a stir in this fresh and nascent scene.
A Sides has been focusing on relaunching Eastside Records with new distribution and now has the entire back-catalogue available for mp3 download from digital store Beatport. The label looks set to add to it’s 75 releases with forthcoming singles due in 2008 from A Sides, both solo and in collaboration with others.
In a style all of his own, A Sides combines soulful vocals with rolling breaks and his heavy trademark bass, giving his tracks total dancefloor appeal. A variety of top DJs have long taken note and A Sides tracks appear regularly on playlists of tastemakers such as Fabio, Grooverider, Goldie and Andy C. Following on from his recent appearance alongside DJ Marky’s on The Master’s Plan compilation, and his and Marky's remix for Carl Cox' 'I want you', A Sides has a single due out on Innerground in early 2008 (“White Riesling / Milk & Honey”). Also due for release in is 'Dreamworld,' due out on Eastside and forthcoming on LTJ Bukem’s 'Live From Exit Festival' DVD, 'Absolute' on Metalheadz and he has also licensed anew track titled 'Tokiado' to Andy C's new Nightlife 4 CD. Further projects include 'Ever Wanted', a special collaboration with Goldie, and 'Mariano's Dream,' a track written together with Sci-Clone partner Nathan Haines.
A Sides is known for his tight mixing skills and technicality as a DJ and plays across the board with his sets, combining a mixture of flavours across the spectrum of drum and bass. With both versatility and experience, A Sides can also play specially requested, for example purely soulful, sets if need be. A Sides not only uses Serato for his performances, but also has a strong link to the company for whom he regularly hold workshops such as recently at the Sun and Bass Festival in Sardinia and at the Miami Winter Music Conference 2008.
A Sides career as a DJ has taken him worldwide, playing in over 200 cities in over 40 different countries, and he’s regularly graced the decks in countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, France, Holland, Belgium, Canada and the USA. He’s due to follow on from his recent tour of South Korea, Singapore and New Zealand with dates in Europe and beyond so be sure to catch him when you can.
