FunkMedia is Diego Aragon and Paul Trelles. This Duo from Peru decided to join forces in 2007 based on their mutual love for house music. Though influenced by a wide range of musical styles, the partnership began with a focus on more progressive sounds. However over the past year their sets have evolved to include a very recognizable funky groove. This uniqueness is what they want to reflect to the listeners of their always fresh mixes. They also want to portray meaning and flow within all of their live sets, as they diligently prepare for all gigs so that there is never any doubt that FunkMedia is giving their very best to the crowd. Diego and Paul are on the verge of releasing their first productions and have recently affiliated themselves with Cromarti Records, a label supported by many top up and coming talents including Hernan Cerbello, Matt Rowan and Max Cagliero.

It has a techy edge, and while I'm actually the kind of cat that likes some tech with his funk, a lot of this sounded almost more like trance to me. A lot of layered synths give it a rather atmospheric vibe, and the basslines don't bounce as much as I'd like. It's nearly one-hundred percent electronic, without any of the sampled horns or guitars that I usually associate with funky house. Also, it has a few of those extended build-ups that leave me saying "enough, quit messing around and drop the beat already." The mix has virtually no vocals, and it's more of a bleak, inorganic soundscape than an upbeat dance mix.
That's not to say that it's bad though. Both the sound quality and the mixing are excellent. But for me, this is the kind of mix I'd rather listen to in my car or on the headphones than hear out at a club or a party.
