Background:
Jesse Lafer, aka Titanic, began spinning in the mid-to-late 1990's and was turned onto electronic music by two tracks in particular, 'Jaydee - Plastic Dreams' and 'Bucketheads - the Bomb', both which he had frequently heard at a local teen nightclub, the Black Cat. Titanic's musical selection and mixing abilities have been vastly influenced by the following DJs/artists/performers - Ian Pooley, Plastikman/Richie Hawtin, Dave Clarke, T-1000, Terrence Parker, DJ Sneak, Lego, Robert Armani, Paul Johnson, Earth Wind & Fire, Prince, Michael Jackson, and the list goes on forever... Titanic's DJ style is extremely diverse and his sets usually include a blend of house, techno, and acid, although house music is where his heart is truly at, and will remain. Occassionally, depending on the crowd,venue, or atmosphere, you may even hear him drop booty or ghetto-tech, even on 3 turntables. His mixing style is very technical, yet still funky, and when given the opportunity to get creative with his sets, he will always capitalize.

Titanic has performed at venues everywhere around Detroit, in Chicago, New York, and several times in Mexico. While studying for his Computer Engineering degree at Michigan State University, Titanic was a weekly resident at Troppo (Wednesdays - East Lansing, MI), at Spiral (Thursdays - ww.spiraldancebar.com - Lansing, MI), and at Times Square Detroit (Fridays -www.timessquaredetroit.com - Detroit, MI). Since graduation from MSU, Titanic played mostly one-off DJ gigs as a result of his full-time dayjob, however, during the Spring/Summer of 2004 he began another new weekly residency. Titanic, along with DJ Binzo, was a resident at the famed Necto (www.thenecto.com - Ann Arbor, MI) for 'Fundamental Thursdays', a night in which local, national, and international DJs frequented the club. During the 'Fundamental' experience at Necto, Titanic was given the opportunity to meet, watch, and play alongside some very influential DJs/producers. In the last year, Titanic has opened for and played alongside the following DJs - Charles Feelgood, DJ Sneak, and DJ Mea, to name a few.

This past year in Detroit, for Movement Festival 2004 (www.movementfestival.com), Titanic was asked to play an official Movement Festival stage, the Necto Techno Boulevard Stage. He played a set consisting of mostly acid house and techno. During the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2003 (Movement 2003), Titanic played a four hour set for the Red Bull & Bacardi VIP/Media/Hospitality area. During Movement 2003, he was also given an opportunity to play at the 93.1/MetroTimes Tent.
