Born in Stockholm, Sweden while his parents were on tour, Friction was immediately submersed into the world of music. At the age of four he found his way to the stage where some 10,000 people sat in awe as he played the drums for the first time. This was only the beginning. He spent his youth playing in bands with his brothers and at the age of twelve he discovered the guitar. At the age of nineteen he played lead guitar and opened for high profile groups such as Cake and the Def Tones.
In later years, Friction had the opportunity to co-produce an album with Peter DiStefano from Porno For Pyros. The album was remixed and mastered at Westlake Studio. This is the world renowned site where musicians like Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Missy Elliot have produced chart topping albums. For years he was a touring musician playing in the realm of live music, but he eventually found himself in need of change. His guitar no longer brought him inspiration.
Music has always been his obsession so it was crucial that he rediscover his creative connection. Like many DJ’s that have been tearing shit up on the west coast, it was Lorin (Bassnectar) that first inspired him to start mixing. Friction stepped into the scene like most electronic heads by staying up until the sun rose in celebration of the music. He spent most nights of the week soaking up the grinding bass ridden beats of the broken beat sound. It wasn’t long after his first encounter that he knew he had once again found his connection to music. Because Friction grew up applying his knowledge of music theory, sound engineering and stage performance, he had a solid foundation from which to work. From the moment he dropped his first record he excelled at the technical aspects of DJing. He was able to experiment with his style and technique at home, house parties and the occasional campout. Since then he has played multiple bars and clubs throughout the west coast and at several massive events such as Burning Man, Love Parade, and Love Fest. He has played with international DJ's such as The Lawgivers, Bass Kitten's and Rennie Pilgrem. With the help of Yno5, for which he is the co-founder, The Purgatory Cruiser was brought to Burning Man 06' and to the San Francisco Love Parade/Fest for the past two years.
Friction is now traveling throughout the country saturating the crowd with not only his unique sound but his disarming warmth and gentleness. Once you hear Friction drop his beats you’ll be left yearning for another fix of audio masturbation. But don’t worry he’ll keep it coming.
