Although of English and Canadian origins, Plastikman's Richie Hawtin is closely connected with the current Detroit techno scene associated with figures such as Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen, Eddie Fowlkes, and Derrick May. His Plus 8 label -- co-owned and operated with John Acquaviva -- is one of the most influential experimental dance music imprints, and Hawtin's own tracks recorded as Plastikman and F.U.S.E.. are highly regarded as faithful, intelligent, forward-stepping updates of the Detroit sound. A DJ of renown and growing in repute as a remixer, Hawtin's visibility as one of experimental dance music's more important and innovative figures has been on the rise since the release of his debut Plastikman album, Sheet One.
Born in the English burgh of Windsor in the early '70s, Hawtin's parents moved to Canada when he was nine. An early interest in electronic-based pop and dance music turned serious when Hawtin discovered the tracks being pumped out of his neighbor-across-the-river Detroit. Beginning as a DJ in 1987, Hawtin quickly became involved in composition through his direct involvement in Detroit's tight-knit community of musicians and producers. Combining early influences from European synth-pop groups like Kraftwerk and New Order with the stripped-down techno-futurism of Detroit innovators such as Juan Atkins and Derrick May, Hawtin's tracks are as steeped in Motor City tradition as they deviate from it in terms of texture and rhythmic complexity. Although 12-inches through Plus 8 and the European NovaMute label have all been pretty dancefloor-oriented, Hawtin's attention to techno-based listening music has been just as focused through his full-length albums. His ambitious series of mix albums -- including 1995's MixMag Live!, 1999's Decks, EFX & 909, 2001's DE9: Closer to the Edit and 2005's DE9: Transitions -- has emboldened his reputation as conceptualist DJ.

Born in a small village in the heart of St Croix, Luciano AKA Lucien-N-Luciano spends his first years in Switzerland, which he departs in the summer of 1998 to follow his mothers' roots to Santiago, Chile. Not only the distance in miles, but the distance in music cultures between these two continents intrigues and seduces the twelve year old and soon he starts to play what was going to be his first instruments and a critical influence in his musical career - the Spanish guitar.
Luciano used the guitar as a tool to learn the fundamentals of melody and rhythm, his self learnt skills were practiced in local bands. Surrounded by latin rhythms and rich melodies, he developed a strong curiosity for diversity of music styles and soon after, in one of his trips back to Europe, experiences the machine sounds of techno as it made waves across Europe during the early years of rave culture and acid house movement.
Soon enough, he began to fusion both worlds thousands of miles apart and incorporate the sound into his own style. When a small electronic scene began to rise in Chile in 1994 and at the age of 16, Luciano and other Chilean friends, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack AKA Martin Schopf, Adrian Schopf organized and promoted several events in Chile. Due to the slow development of the scene in Santiago and the lack of elements that would support the scene such as music magazines and the appropriate clubs to play in, he decides to return to his native Switzerland in 2001 and expand and explore his fascination with electronic music and sound engineering.
A year after, Luciano begins to travel widely playing as a DJ and live act, and ever since one can hear his melodies in clubs throughout the world. He has released on labels such as Perlon, Klang, Transmat, Mental Groove, Max Ernst, Bruchstücke and Peacefrog - not forget Cadenza, his own label. His project name Lucien-N-Luciano is used to portray the slower downbeat productions while the productions under his own name Luciano are aimed towards pleasure on the dancefloor.
Luciano's music is widely appreciated because of its graceful melodies, love for detail and colorful patterns merging into an amazing rhythm one can enjoy at home or in a club.
Rhythm rise and fall like a gentile tide of bubbly ocean, big string arrangements spread across vast expanses of air, while a micro burst of sound pop out from under the smooth, texturized grooves.
