Biography of Alison Marks

Alison Marks grew up in a small town in the middle of England, and studied dance and piano as a child. She longed to escape and spent her weekends traveling to various clubs and free parties around the country. In 1993 she moved to Manchester to study psychology and go to The Hacienda. She bought decks with her student loan and practiced a lot. In 1996 Alison was the first female dj to win Muzik magazine's Bedroom Bedlam, a mixtape competition also won by James Zabiela and Will Saul, and began hosting a show on pirate radio Frequency FM . Upon finishing university she moved to London and started working in record distribution. No longer content with playing somebody else's records, she bought an Atari and drum machine. Her popularity rose fast and she played all over UK at clubs such as The End, Fabric, Plastic People, Robodisco, Wiggle, Secret Sundaze, The Cross, Turnmills and also internationally.

Over the years Alison has played at Propaganda (Moscow, Russia), Twilo (New York), Muna (Germany), Otv (Croatia), Moog (Barcelona), The Room (Valencia), Weekend (Madrid), Goa (Madrid), Tlv (Israel), Pervert (Mexico), Paradise Garage (Portugal), Radost FX (Prague), Tropical House (Los Angeles), and various clubs in Hong Kong, China, Lebanon, Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, Greece, Canada, Ukraine, Switzerland, Iceland, Holland, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Sicily and Siberia. She has also played a number of great festivals:Extrema (Holland), I Love Techno (Belgium), Mysteryland (Holland), Koneisto Festival (Finland) and Exit Festival (2002 Serbia) and held overseas residencies in Bogota Columbia and Amsterdam, alongside London residencies at The Laundry and Turnmills as well as hosting a monthly show on Groovetech radio.

In 2002 she was offered the chance to host her own weekly night at Propaganda club in Moscow. Every friday she played for 8 hours, presenting a wide range of forward thinking electronic music from electronica, downtempo, minimal and deep house to melodic techno and often some songs at the end - pure indulgence. The night developed into a monster..it was meant to last a few months but lasted 2 years. Alison also played all over Russia, taking in Irkutsk, Siberia, Surgut, Saratov, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Tagil, Krasnodar, Pyatigorsk, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Ufa, Magnitogorsk, Sterlitamak, Penza, Sahalin, Chelyabinsk, Sochi and many other cities and towns.

After a few years break she started to build up her studio again and is finally seeing results from all the hard work. Two of her tracks - Rothschild's Violin and Focomentry - were picked up by Steve Bug and released on Dessous in March 2006. She will release Galapagos in sept 2007 on Punk'd records and Yellow Cherry remixed by Tigerskin and Mike Shannon on Lichen records at the end of 2007. She recently went back to college to study sound art. Her long running love affair with all things electronic has seen her amass a vintage record collection that is often evident in her dynamic and emotive sets. With impeccable technical skills she looks to the past and future for inspiration to create a unique present that inspires devotion, dancing and magic in a way that few people can ignore.
