Biography of Russ Gabriel

Russ Gabriel is a name synonymous with U.K. Techno. His first full techno release came out back in 1993 on his newly formed Ferox label. Russ went on to record for most of the major techno forces of the 90’s: Carl Craig’s Planet-E, Peacefrog Records, DJAX-Up-Beats, GPR, Force-Inc, Soma Recordings, New Electronica and Dave Clarke’s Magnetic North to name just a few. Always with a passion for sound and synthesis, Russ initially set up his studio to make dub, but was soon converted to the electronic side of things by the early nineties radio shows of Colins Faver and Dale. After a host of releases, Russ put the small village of Liss, Hampshire on the techno map with the formation of Ferox.

The biggest influence at this time were the innovative recordings coming out of the Netherlands which Russ saw as a natural progression from the first Detroit Techno. This influence can be heard on his classic “Peace EP” on Ferox and the “Voltage Control” album released soon after. From Tokyo to São Paulo, Russ has DJed just about everywhere. Starting the club circuit with various live shows around Europe, he soon turned his focus onto DJing and by 1995 he was a regular in Canada and the U.S. as well as at home in Europe. After half a year in Detroit, Russ made the inevitable move and relocated himself and the label to London in 1997. By 2000 Russ had relocated once again to Germany where he has been ever since.

As a radio DJ, Russ learned his craft from Colin Dale and after a few shows on Kiss FM he went on to present the Underground FM Techno Show in the U.K. He now co-hosts the RT-Transmissions show in Stuttgart with Der Thal. The show also goes out as a webstream and podcast worldwide, as well on regular FM airwaves in Zagreb, Croatia and soon Barcelona, Dublin and London. Starting with the Ferox Classics and Konacno releases on U.K. Pariter, Russ has been back in recording mode since 2007. There is forthcoming material on Ferox, Sestra and Thump Elektroniks to start 2008 as well as collaborations with Xpansul, Dan Curtin, Erwin van Moll, Terry Usher, Tony Blunt for a new project called Doide and RT-Transmissions partner Der Thal.
