Biography of Markie Mark

1969 Age 5 Dad gives Mark access to his record collection and a portable record player
1971 Mark receives a tape recorder for Xmas
1972 'Crazy Horses' by the Osmonds first record bought
1975 Starts to play with and programme computers.
1976 'Wish you were here'- Pink Floyd first Album
1977 - 1986 More than a regular listener to The John Peel Radio Show on British Radio 1
1978 'Heart of Glass' - Blondie - First 12'
1979 Starts to make 'Pause Mix' tapes for parties and friends
1984 –1987: 'Groove' in Norwich, England. First DJ gig that became a residency. Played Electro, Modern Rock, Disco and Hip-Hop and early House.
1987 Leaves University with a Masters Degree in Atmospheric Physics and moves to London. Acid House explodes.
1988 - 1989 Start throwing parties, 'Whoosh, it's happening!' with best friend Ron and this guy called Jeno.
1988 - 1992 Tonka Sound System, London, England along with Harvey, Chocci and Rev This included the famous Monthly at the 'Zap Club' in Brighton and the infamous after parties on the beach. The precursor to The Full Moon Parties Wicked threw in California.
1989-1990: The Captains Table with Harvey at the Brain Club, London. A super eclectic mix of music from all genres.
1991 - 1996 The legendary Wicked Full Moon Parties. Free outdoor hedonism at its very best.
1992 An encounter with the infamous Genesis P Orridge (who at the time was on the run from the British authorities,) led to Markie collaborating on the Psychic TV track, Kondole Part 3, and kicked off Markie’s recording career.
1992 -1993 Resident at the sexually mixed night Carefree Dancing at the renowned San Francisco club Townsends. Gay, straight, whatever. For a short time in San Francisco no one cared and it was fabulous!
1993 – 1995: Resident at Rhythm, San Francisco, the follow up to Carefree.
1997: Forms his band 'Defenders of the Faith'. An exploration of the dub nature of dance music.
Summer 2000: First live Defenders of the Faith shows with guest vocalist Shaggy Manatee.

1991 – Present: Markie has consistently brought great DJ talent to the City of San Francisco. With Wicked he is responsible for the first time appearances of such luminaries as Francois Kevorkian, Danny Tenaglia, DJ Pierre, Kenny Dope, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Harvey, The Bassment Boys, Tony Humphries, Disciple, Johnny Dynnel, Frankie Knuckles, Frankie Feliciano, Eddie Richards, Mike Clark, Robert Owens, K Alexi and Chez Damier.

1991 – 2004 Wicked Sound System, San Francisco. Co-creator, Promoter and DJ of the party that put San Francisco on the global dance map.

Markie’s unique vision and engineering skills can already be heard on a number of releases on such labels as Grayhound, Honchos, Green Gorilla, Third World and Twisted Roots.

2001 Burning Man playing to 4000 lovely people at the Lush Camp Saturday Night/Sunday Morning
