Biography of Tayo
Tayo has been involved in shaping today's break beat sound since the scene's very early days. Whether writing about the scene, DJing or promoting the seminal breaks night 'Friction', Tayo has proved himself an integral part of the scene.
At the beginning of 2000 he mixed 'Y4K' for Distinctive Records. 'Y4K' was a chance to showcase his fluid breaks style that has taken him across the UK to the likes of Fabric, Bugged Out, Boutique, and Elements and across the world to Australia, Asia, the US and all over Europe. He currently holds Residencies in Manchester and London with Bugged Out! as well as with Urban Guerilla in Sheffield. He is also resident and co promoter of ROOTY, alongside Basement Jaxx, and took the club onto the terrace at Space in Summer 2002.
Having served an apprenticeship on Groovetech Radio and for the Ministry Of Sound, Tayo took over the Kiss FM breakbeat show in November 2001, increasing the show's audience with every player on the breaks scene and beyond, dropping in to do a mix and say hello.
As well as the labels, the gigs, and the radio shows, Tayo is making more inroads in the studio. After testing the water as World Of Crime for TCR and the Ultimate Breaks label, Tayo made Mob's best selling track 'Fire Good' with Precision Cuts. With his new partner Acid Rockers, Tayo has made 'Wicked Dub' to be released on Skint and already featured on Freq Nasty's Y4K. The pair have also remixed Dave Clarke's 'The Compass' and are currently remixing Koma & Bones, and Shut Up & Dance.

A stalwart of the progressive breakbeat or nu-skool breaks scene, Tayo is a popular DJ and producer who also runs the Mob label, home to the Stanton Warriors, Beber and Dynamic Shadows. He met Rennie Pilgrem at the Soul Jazz record shop, where he used to work and Pilgrem introduced him to the new breakbeat sound of his TCR label. Along with Adam Freeland, the three set up the London club night, 'Friction', which became a focal point for the progressive breakbeat scene. Tayo holds DJing residencies at prestigious UK clubs such as Home, Bugged Out (at Cream in Liverpool), the Big Beat Boutique, Fabric and the 'Rooty' underground parties in Brixton, London run by Basement Jaxx. Playing a house set, he has also appeared at Space in Ibiza. His funky, accessible style of breakbeat was given an airing on the Distinctive Breaks compilation, Y4K: Further Still which featured tracks by Meat Katie, the Plump DJs and his own production with Precision Cuts, 'Fire Good'.
