Biography of Donor and Truss
Donor & Truss[Greg Schappert & Tom Russell]
Greg Schappert aka Donor was born in New York in 1979. Having lived in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo and Brooklyn, he has acquired quite a few musical influences. However, it was the harder, darker and minimal sounds of cities such as Birmingham, Berlin and Detroit that originally sparked his interest in electronic music.In 2003 Greg moved to Japan where he took the next step and started experimenting with music production. Age, new influences and a desire for experimentation lead him to take on a more minimal approach to music. 2005 saw Greg moving to Barcelona where he set up a studio and focused on production and establishing his net label Miniscule. Due to visa complications he was eventually forced to move back to the States. He is currently living in Brooklyn and spending whatever free time he has locked up in his basement studio. Greg is now performing both as a DJ and a live act.
Truss (Tom Russell) was born and bred in a small hill top village on the outskirts of Cardiff in South Wales. Throughout his childhood, Tom was mentored by his musician father who encouraged him to learn various instruments and perform in many orchestras and bands. As a teenager, Tom was introduced to the thriving UK rave scene through his friends’ badly recorded mix tapes. They featured mostly UK hardcore and early jungle and it was from these that he developed a taste for electronic based music. Many years of record shopping, DJ'ing and partying followed from which Tom gained an increasing appreciation for the heavy industrial sounds of Birmingham and London of the late nineties. His production skills are also regularly in demand to provide music for many world wide advertising campaigns. Tom's DJ and live sets hold true to his love of raw electronic grooves and tripped out soundscapes.
