Biography of Breno Ung
From the moment he heard the Gigolo Records label’s hits in 1988, Breno Ung fell in love with the electronic music, more specifically with the electro music. No long afterwards, he found, at 'Uruguaiana', a popular market selling fake products downtown Rio de Janeiro, a very simple software for producing music.
Three months after that, Breno Ung met Gustavo Fróes, a.k.a. Nitrosound, at the Graphic Design college. Fróes was the one who introduced Breno Ung to techno music and the adequate software to produce it.
At the end of 2001, after almost two years producing music, Breno Ung sold his electric bass, which he have been using to compose since thirteen years old, and bought a mixer and a couple of decks, because he believed on the techno and electro rise in the tropical city.
Today, Ung’s residence at the Bar Club Fosfobox, his activity at the famous X-Demente party, as well at the Dama de Ferro ('Iron Lady') nightclub, have allowed him to have already recovered his bass. At Dama de Ferro, he has already played together with some electro international names as Atomizer (Gigolo Records, Germany), Punx Soundcheck, Tommie Sunshine, Martini Bros (Pokerflat), Mark Moore, and Ivan Smagghe. He has also played at some Delírio parties with Green Velvet, Richard Bartz and Ali Schwarz and Steril (Gigolo Records). Breno Ung has also played with some Brazilian classic DJs as Ricardo NS, Maurício Lopes, Marcelo Schild, Anderson Noise, Luiz Pareto, Marcos Morcerf, Gustavo Tatá, Jonas Rocha, and Mau Mau.
At the beginning of 2003, together with the DJ Renato Bastos, Breno Ung created the Pertence Records label, through which they have launched their techno productions signing as Speed Metal, as well as the productions of many Brazilian and foreign friends as Saduh, The Miller, and Ted Bjorling.
In 2004, Ung started developing soundtracks for several fashion runways, among which the main fashion event in Rio de Janeiro: the Fashion Rio. At Fashion Rio, Ung worked for the stylist Zoé Avelaneda and for the Frankie & Amaury griffe, remixing some classics from the 80s as Technotronic, Vanila Ice, and Information Society, with today’s best techno. After the Fashion Rio, Ung was invited to the Fevest fashion week in Friburgo, a city near Rio de Janeiro. At Fevest, he was responsible for 15 soundtracks for different fashion runways.
At the beginning of 2005, Ung and his partner Renato Bastos established their own studio, and were called again to work at the Fashion Rio, this time for the Zigfreda label. This work had a so huge repercussion that Ung and Bastos were invited to compile the Lita Mortari label’s winter collection’s launching party, and to compose the soundtrack for the party’s fashion runway. These works were the kick-off for Ung and Bastos’ participation on several events as fashion weeks, labels’ launchings, and others.
Today, Ung’s focus is the 'ung & bastos' project together with his partner Renato Bastos. The project aims producing dancing music with a very dark electro and minimal techno characteristic, as well as elaborating a live act that where Ung and Bastos have already acted together with Vince Watson, Deep Dish e Dave Clarke.
Breno Ung’s main influences come from the European electro techno, from the 80s’ sound, and from The Beatles.
