Biography of Gregor Tresher

In the field of electronic music, Gregor Tresher is by no means a debutant. For more than six years the thirty-year old DJ and producer from Rhine-Main area gathered merits with his project Sniper Mode, modernizing the algorithms of Electro. The reason why some people see Gregor as one of the newcomers of 2006 are his current releases under his real name, which define the interface between Techno and Electro excitingly new.

With the release of his 'Still' EP Gregor Tresher has definitely found his place among the most important German producers in electronic music. Up to now several tracks mark the highlights of this exciting development: 'Neon“ and 'Still' (both on Datapunk), 'The Now People' (Great Stuff Records), Gregor´s „Komm“-Remix for Sven Vaeth and Anthony Rother (#2 Best Remix 2005 in German Raveline Magazine) or his 'Full Range Madness' for Cocoon´s Compilation F. And not only Sven Vaeth upscaled all of those tracks by playing them on heavy rotation in his sets for months.

'At the beginning of the new millenium i got bored of straight beat and wanted to work with more complex grooves – Electro was the perfect playground. Past years´ developments in techno music and the end of the harder&faster-trend attracted me back into electronic music for the dancefloor as DJ and producer as well. The flexibility of integrating melodies or vocals in a track considerably widened the spectrum. Today Electro has got a whole new meaning for me and no longer defines itself by Vocoder-vocals or 808-beats, but stands for energetic electronic music in general, emancipated from rules and conventions and extendable in every direction.' (Tresher, November 2005)

Gregor´s musical direction shown in his current releases is underlined by his recent DJ-Gigs in the prime clubs everywhere in Europe: From London to Budapest, from Madrid to Athens, from Marseille to Berlin. 'To play anything from Tech-House to Electro in one set and present it in an exciting voyage is what DJ-ing means to me for 2006.' Electro is not a fix category for Gregor´s production but more of an open reference-system between past, present and future of electronic music. 'My musical foundations were laid by New- Wave classics like Heaven 17, The Human League or Anne Clarke. My next big influences were the techno-explosion in the early nineties and later Electro music in general. When I first met Anthony Rother he was about to launch the new label Datapunk. At the same time i wanted to progress musically and was looking for an innovative platform. The whole concept behind Datapunk was a perfect fit.'

The coming year 2006 will probably be a highlight in Gregor´s career. His cooperation with London´s well known DJ Billy Nasty shows first encouraging results with releases on Terminal M ('The Mad Real World', August 2006), Datapunk ('Imperfection', June 2006) and on Nasty´s Electrix label ('Black Sorcery', January 2006). 'Our sound developed to a hybrid between techhouse and electro, which also can be found in both of our DJ-Sets' (Tresher, November 2005). And of course there will be new solo-releases: For 'Neon', his third release on Datapunk, Gregor selected two independent formats (Double-12inch & DJ-Mix-CD), which present both his role as producer as well as DJ equally. And two new massive summer anthems were released with 'Full Range Madness' on Cocoon´s Compilation F and 'The Now People' on Great Stuff Records. Also Gregor carries on to work as a remixer (e.g. for projects by Sven Vaeth & Anthony Rother, Ralf Hildenbeutel, Ramon Zenker, Stephan Bodzin or the Detroit Grand Pubahs) and also as producer for other artists (e.g. for Karotte, Billy Nasty) and puts his trademark sound on their tracks.

Since summer 2006 Gregor Tresher is represented by the well-known booking agency Family Affairs and of course his DJ-calendar will bring him to clubs all over Europe again in 2006.
