Number9 (Shaun Stanek)
(Detroit, Pitchslap Music)
Hometown:
Born in Ohio and current resident of the Ann Arbor, MI area.
Genre/Influences:
House.
Background:
DJ Number9 first became exposed to underground dance music in 1996 while attending Eastern Michigan University on a golf scholarship. Frequenting the Motor Lounge and various parties in the Detroit area exposed him to a variety of different musical choices. Although techno was Detroit’s trademark, Number9 was immediately drawn to the house sounds of Chicago. Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, John Acquaviva, and D-Wynn proved to be his biggest influences as a dj. Witnessing these artists perform and hearing them unleash some of the funkiest house on the planet, lead Shaun to his first set of tables...and they've been ON ever since.
Within a short time, Number9 has worked hard to position himself as one of the hottest up and coming dj’s in the Detroit area. Number9’s reputation in Detroit is rapidly growing as one of the leaders of the funky west coast house sound. His sets have become known for their seamless mixing and superb programming that is never short on funk. Over the past 3 years Number9 has released 8 mixed cd’s that have all shown his true versatility as a house dj. Whether it’s deep, funky, techy, or quirky--Number9 has shown that he has the ability to take the listener on a journey through the multi-dimensional sounds of house music.
Number9 has performed all across the Detroit area and has made stops in Cleveland, Lansing, and Kitchener, Ontario. He has made numerous appearances at various parties and clubs including the Necto, Foran’s, Bleu, Carbon, The Works, Belmont Bar, and Peabody’s (Cleveland). Many of these appearances have given him the opportunity to play alongside several world class dj’s including DJ Dan, 'Evil' Eddie Richards, Terry Mullan, Dayhota, Lady D, Mike Huckaby, and Glenn Underground.
The future will no doubt hold many great things for this up-and-coming talent. Between the rapid growth of his booking schedule, his partnership with Pitchslap Music, and his shift of focus towards production, you will definitely want to keep your ears open to the sounds delivered by Number9.
