Kevin McHugh (aka AMBIVALENT) is a native of Washington, DC and resident of New York City. His musical development began in DC where he was influenced by the broad nature of that city’s music scene. Early exposure to acidhouseand industrial side-by-side with DC’s homegrown go-go and hardcore punk scenes deeply influenced his music.
After a brief period in London, Kevin moved to New York in 1996. He began producing a music series inside the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage for Creative Time. Over the next 5 years he produced events with artists such as Thomas Brinkmann, Dimbiman, Carl Craig, Ryoji Ikeda, Pole, and many more. It was during this time that he began making a connection with Minus. He went on to
produce events in New York featuring friends such as Magda, Troy Pierce and his roommate Jesse (Heartthrob) as well as Matthew Dear, Akufen and Sammy Dee.
He moved to Berlin in 2004 to help Richie Hawtin produce the Plastikman live concert. He later returned to New York and re-dedicated himself to producing music inspired by his friends. He answered an ad for an apartment, and moved in with a DJ named Camea. She later created Clink Recordings. He DJs regularly in New York, and on his internet radio show, The Nerd Tank, with Camea. He has releases and remixes (past and forthcoming) on Minus, Clink, Klickhaus, Esperanza, and Leftroom.

Growing up in a quiet suburb outside of Seattle, WA, Camea studied music and dance for most of her life. The classically and jazz trained piano and clarinet player became intrigued by the innovations of electronic music when first exposed in the 90s. After purchasing turntables in 1999 her journey began. By early 2002 she had acquired six residencies in the Pacific Northwest, as well as a three-month stint in India.
In the summer of 2002, Camea relocated to New York City. She joined Sister NYC, where she now plays an integral role in producing and directing successful and creative one-off theme parties featuring female talent. Over the last two years these events have earned Sister NYC a strong reputation for their positive vibe, good crowds and originality. Camea also collaborates with other promoters and crews that specialize in minimal, micro-house and tech-house Events. Solo, she produces a monthly house party called Shag, which has consistently grown in attendance, packing the Buddha Lounge (NYC) the 2nd Saturday of every month. She is also an affiliate of NYEX (New York Experimental), a long running group of minimal techno Djs and producers located in New York.
Camea’s unique minimal and tech-house sound has steadily secured her bookings nationally and internationally. She has played at countless reputable events and performs almost weekly, but often times more. In 2004 she was given regular slots at the internationally known techno weekly, Tronic Treatment, where she played line ups with many of the worlds leading techno artists, such as Ben Sims, Christian Smith and John Aquaviva. The roster of notable DJ/Producers she’s played with has become too long to list, and it’s become evident that she is a rising talent amongst them.
Best known for her positive attitude, outgoing spirit behind the decks and floor moving tracks, Camea concentrates on bringing new sounds to the floor while keeping a dark and funky groove that electronic music lovers can identify with. Her craving for fresh, innovative sounds, matched with a strong musical background, has brought her into the world of production where she is working at obtaining skills for future releases. In the mean time, Camea can be found pushing her sound on dance floors in New York City and abroad with the dark, driving and funky sound of micro-house, tech-house, electro and minimal techno. Please check back for upcoming releases and other updates on Camea.
