Biography of Ben Wu
I have been dj'ing for about 8 years now. My style has constantly been evolving and changing from day one. Partly because I have mild A.D.D., but mostly because I am obsessed with finding the latest and greatest...I'm all over the place sometimes, but for the most part, you could describe my music as tech-house that is anywhere from minimal to full on bangin'.
From 1998 to 2003, while attending Eastern Michigan University, I spent weekends driving all over Northern Ohio, Southeastern Michigan and Canada playing raves and clubs, even playing the World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF) in Toronto. I held a Saturday residency at the Detroit super-club, “Science”, during the summer of 2000 and played Detroit's Motor Lounge and Ann Arbor's Necto many times.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure to open up for and meet DJ's like Richard 'Humpty' Vision, Adam X, Paranoid Jack, Neil Landstrumm, Kooky Scientist, Dylan Drazen and Ryan Crosson to name a few.
In 2002, my mix-CD, PHUNKY MONKEY V.2, turned heads across the country and was reviewed in the “Mix-it” section of the October issue of URB magazine. That same year, I started my weekly internet radio show of the same name on Toronto's www.club246.com.
My wife and I moved to San Diego in the summer of 2003 for our 'day jobs'. This led to gigs in San Diego, L.A. and San Francisco. During this time, I was also asked to come back to the Mid-West for several gigs, including after-parties for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Halloween in Louisville, KY.
Today, we now live in Indianapolis and after 4 years, I have recently retired from my internet radio show. I have still been rocking dancefloors back in Michigan and recently was invited to Washington D.C. for the first time for the Mixed Signals crew, www.mixedsignalsdc.com.
