Biography of The Village Orchestra

The Village Orchestra is the solo escapade of Scottish musician Ruaridh Law, who also officiates as one third of Glasgow-based electronic outfit The Marcia Blaine School For Girls, who are currently being tipped as one of the hottest electronic acts around.

I'm a musician. I'm in a group called the Marcia Blaine School For Girls (http://marciablaine.com, or for full News Corp soul-selling action http://www.myspace.com/marciablaineindustries) who have released some records here and there. A couple of EPs, a curated compilation, some spilt singles. there was an album out a few months ago - reviews and press below or on the above Marcia sites. I also record solo as The Village Orchestra - I've released an album under that name which people seemed to like quite a bit - and with collaborators as Accrual (one lathe cut 7' and two cd-r albums). Oh and sometimes as Rose and Sandy as well. (a big sprawling pretentious dvd release one day soon).

My influences are Autechre, Sutekh, Hrvatski, To Rococo Rot, SL2, Carl Craig, Zoviet France, Fennesz, Stepan Mathieu, Surgeon, Basic Channel, Herbert, Steve Reich, Oliver Ho, Ekkehard Ehlers, Philip Glass, Stewart S Walker, Mark Broom, La Monte Young, Boards Of Canada, Modeselektor, Thomas Brinkmann, 2 Bad Mice, Terry Riley, Labradford, Pita, Orphax, Boom Bip, Tortoise, Sixtoo, Daigoro, Izu, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Stillupsteypa, Mokira, James Ruskin, Ultramagnetic MCs, Pita, Pan Sonic, Erstlaub, The first Prodigy album, Tersh Jetterax, Shitmat, Weatherall, Noize Creator, irr.app.(ext), Deadbeat, Charlemagne Palestine, Francicso Lopez, Akira Rabelais, Mogwai, Stars of The Lid, Herbert, Kero, Scorn, Photek, Eno, Pimmon, Thomas Koner, Monolake, Jim O'Rourke, Sleeparchive, The Bug, Mika Vanio, LFO, Speedy J, Richard Devine, Corduan, Oren Ambarchi, Tim Hecker, Aoki Takamasa, Wolf Eyes, Sleeparchive, Oscar Fucking Mulero, other stuff.
