Biography of The Disco Boys

When DJs became pop stars
The era of disc jockeys really began in the mid 70s when they started to celebrate their records rather than just playing them. It was the time when people partied all night long in clubs, and the guys delivering the fresh sounds were the heroes of the night. DJs like Larry Levan, Nicky Siano, Frankie Knuckles and Steve Silk Hurley began to mix vinyl records and prolong certain parts of a track with two identical records. They could drive the crowds into ecstasy with these new techniques, the beats were neverending and the times when DJs were just putting on record after record were definitely over. Clubs like Paradise Garage, The Gallery, Loft and Warehouse were legends - and Disco became House.

The mission of THE DISCO BOYS
The Disco Boys are part of this tradition. In 1995 they were the first DJs in Germany to mix original Disco with contemporary house music. The dancefloor is their litmus paper, if it´s not rocking, they are not satisfied. And Raphael and Gordon aren’t a couple of inanimate characters hiding behind their Technics 1210 decks. Dressed up in matching outfits, daring hair-dos and sunglasses, they incite the crowd throught their radiant presence alone. They don't see themselves as faceless DJs, rather as entertainers who want to stimulate and electrify the crowd. Wherever they play, the clubs are crammed with up-for-it party people.

Journey around the world
In summer 2004, The Disco Boys rocked the party island Ibiza, and with their number 1 hit single „For You“ (feat. Manfred Mann’s Earth Band) in the box, they played gigs in the USA and China. Because of their uncomplicated demeanour, they are welcome guests in cosy clubs as well as at huge events like Mayday, Loveparade and Sensation White. With all these appearances, booking them has become something of an art form. The Disco Boys are booked out months in advance. Their bi-annual mix CD releases are bestsellers. „The Disco Boys – Volume 1“ fetches more than €80 on ebay and the most recent edition, „The Disco Boys – Volume 5“ entered the German sales charts at #5.

BEST HOUSE ARTIST
The Disco Boys were voted „Best House Artist“ by the audience at the 'Dance Music Awards 2005'. Their talent as producers is also in demand, for remixes as well as their own productions. Check out mixes for Bootsy Collins, The Lovefreekz, Carolina Marquez, Jacky S and 2Black to name just a few. The Disco Boys come with a dance anthem and floorfiller guarantee, both as DJs and producers. Their mix of contemporary house and electro tracks with disco sounds from the 70s and 80s is unique. When The Disco Boys hit the turntables, a surefire party night of excesses is about to begin.
Tonight is partytime, it's partytime tonight!

TEN GOLDEN YEARS
CURRICULUM VITAE - THE DISCO BOYS

1995
When the German techno band Scooter received a gold record for „Hyper Hyper“, Raphael and Gordon decided: „We could do that!“ – „We’ll call ourselves The Disco Boys!“. A few weeks later they had their first „Disco Fever“ Party at a small club in Hamburg called Prinzenbar. With a llittle help from the local newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost, who printedthe flyer in the paper they broke the attendance record for the cult location on the very first night. Later that year they took „Disco Fever“ to bigger venues such as Docks and Jens Thele’s legendary Kontor Club.

1996
Every 1st Friday „Disco Fever“ is held at „Housefrau“ Andrea Junker's Absolut club in Hamburg and every 3rd Friday in Lübeck at „Eishaus“.
Raphael and Gordon fly out to New York City regularly to buy original disco vinyls. Each of them owns a collection of more than 10,000 records at home, mostly 12' singles.

1997
Alex P. Jäger, editor of Partysan NRW, attends a „Disco Fever“ party at the legendary club Grünspan and is thrilled by what he sees and hears. Shortly after he organizes a „Disco Fever“ party with The Disco Boys in Essen at the Tanzhaus des Westens. Bookings follow in Frankfurt (U60311), Kassel (Stammheim), Münster (Dockland), Düsseldorf (La Rocca), Köln (Tiefenrausch), Dortmund (zuHouse), Erfurt (Joue Joue), Dresden (Blauer Salon).

1998
Back in Hamburg The Disco Boys start playing regularly at the new club Phonodrome and rename their parties Discodrome, following the idea of a resident club with additional guest DJs. People like Roger Sanchez, Felix Da Housecat, Phats & Small, Tonka, Joey Negro, John Acquaviva, Marshall Jefferson and many more joined them. Meanwhile they have become a big name in the Ruhr area where they play at the fabulous Flamingo Club in Essen once a month. People queue for their parties, the nights are almost always sold out.

1999
Their first booking on Ibiza at El Divino. The first production of their own is a remake of an old Prince classic: „1999“, which they re-made for the millennium with producer Benny Braun. New Years Eve they play at three gigs: starting off at the Flamingo in Essen, then moving on to Münster to play at the Dockland, and finally rocking the house at Stammheim in Kassel. A party marathon from 10pm till 6pm!

2001
This year sees the release of „The Disco Boys – Volume 1“ and the single The Disco Boys feat. RB „Born To Be Alive“, RB being the initials of famous German singer Roberto Blanco. Raphael und Gordon appear on several nationwide TV shows together with him. The single enters the charts, and the Felix Da Housecat Remix is requested by 2manydjs for their compilation. They play for the „Cocoon Club' at „Amnesia'. Their own parties at the Phonodrome come to an end as they are inundated with bookings elsewhere, leaving no time to organize their own parties. The Rubin Club on the famous street Große Freiheit in Hamburg becomes their new residency

2002
Release of „The Disco Boys – Volume 2“. Their remix for Bootsy Collins’ „Play With Bootsy“ goes straight on the A side A of the double-12“. The „Knock On Wood“ remix for Culture Beat singer Jacky S. becomes a real floorfiller. Again they appear at the „Cocoon Club“ on Ibiza and found their own booking agency DiscoBookings.

2003
Raphael and Gordon change their record company, from eastwest records (Warner) to Kontor. Release of „The Disco Boys – Volume 3“ and the single „We Came To Dance“. They play at the „Follow Me“ parties of El Divino on Ibiza and start their monthly residency at the U60311 in Frankfurt.

2004
Release of „The Disco Boys – Volume 4“ and the single „Here On My Own“. They start the tour with a gig at the Mayday. Even though they play in the early hours of the morning - 4:45 to 6 a.m. – nobody leaves the hall. In the summer they fly out to Ibiza every Sunday to play at El Divino, the parties are always a big success.

2005
To celebrate their 10th anniversary Raphael and Gordon kick off the „Ten Golden Years Tour“, which takes them from Germany to France, Austria, USA and China. Virtually every gig is are sold out. The single The Disco Boys feat. Manfred Mann’s Earth Band „For You“ is No. 1 in the official dance charts (ODC40) for 6 weeks and stays in the sales charts for more than 10 weeks. The Mix CD „The Disco Boys – Volume 5“ reaches #5 of the Media Control Compilation Charts. At the „Dance Music Awards 2005“ The Disco Boys get voted 'Best House Artist' by the audience. This award only shows how much the fans love The Disco Boys. Since March they have been hosting a monthly radio show on Sunshine Live, the biggest German youth radio station. They publish a column in Raveline, the biggest German dance magazine. Meanwhile they are booked out almost a year in advance – and play at festivals like „Sensation White“ at the Veltins Arena auf Schalke or „Mayday“ in Dortmund.
