Biography of DJ Skurge
The Aquanaut identified as DJ Skurge may or may not have taken over the mind and body of one Milton Baldwin of Detroit, Michigan. Baldwin was an avid listener of the radio rebels known as the Electrifying Mojo and the Wizard (the Wizard has since been identified as Jeff Mills). It is not known if these rebels triggered his transformation or if Baldwin was predestined to become something other than “some guy from Detroit”. It is known that he had a cousin who was a “jit” dancer in the infamous “Unscene Dancers” and that he was exposed to sped up electronic music at an early age, so perhaps it was inevitable that he would one day learn to mix records starting with Kraftwerk and Model 500. To make matters worse, he expanded his musical skills by learning guitar and playing in rock and funk bands. This only strengthened the DJ Skurge persona who reportedly made contact with the agents of 2030 Grand River, and eventually “Mad” Mike Banks. Last year, he and another Aquanaut joined up with the Interstellar Fugitives. Working from Detroit AND Japan, DJ Skurge played a major role in shaping the sound of the double CD release with Fugitive veterans “Mad” Mike and Gerald Mitchell. Not too long afterwards, Skurge was tapped to join a revisioned take on the Model 500 band led by techno legend Juan Atkins. Now that he has finished a month long residency in the Netherlands, Skurge and his bandmates are hard at work on a new Model 500 album.
It was only 2004 when the 7 inch single “Cruise Ship Killer” b/w “Frustrated” was released by the Aquanauts, when the world would come to understand the terror of DJ Skurge. It had been largely assumed that the massacres on the cruise ships Desire, Adventure and Mercy had been the work of Drexciyan conservatives, but the single helped authorities piece together the events that led up the tragedy. His follow-up, “Slide, Skate,” is hotly debated by experts over whether the track is a call to dance or commentary on government and political corruption. Still, Skurge is not content to simply produce, often venturing out of the studio to destroy DJ complacency. Some have even speculated that the “DJ” of DJ Skurge stands for “Drexciyan Judgement”! His words have sent a chill to wallflowers everywhere: If you’re not dancing, you’re already dead!!
