Biography of The Advent
The Advent formed in London 1994, the result of a co-operation between Cisco Ferreira and (ex-partner) Colin McBean. Cisco who now rogues alone began his involvement in style as a studio engineer for Jack Trax, working with early pioneers such as Adonis, Larry Heard (Fingers Inc.), Marshall Jefferson and Derrick May.
Cisco’s own debut releases began during the Belgian New Beat craze including Space Opera’s classic “The Project” (198 and the eponymously titled “Cisco Ferreira” EP on Fragile, also working with Fade to Black (Jay Denham) for “Bio Rhythms 2” (Network).
His other engineering-production credits includes work with Carl Macintosh (Loose Ends – 80’s UK soul group), Salt Tank, Ashley Beedle & Darren Price, David Morley, Mundo Muzique, Robert Leiner, Robert Owens and others. Cisco also co-produced with CJ Bolland on The 4th Sign LP, Mantra, Camargue, Nightbreed and Love at Universe for R&S Records.
Elements of Life (1994) represented The Advent’s sound perfectly and many of the tracks had already been road-tested in their live performances that year, at the Tribal Gathering – UK, and Universe – Germany.
Shaded Elements (1995) was a project that featured remixes by Mark Bell, Surgeon, Planetary Assaults Systems, Joey Beltram, Damon Wild, Carl Lekebusch, Steve Bicknell and others….. this was then followed by the release of the 3rd LP New Beginning’s (1996). One quote from a magazine said “prepare to phunk Advent style, to this brain shaking, electro-frying sequel”…In 1998 came the distinctive mixed & edited album, Kombination Phunk… this was a series of tracks supplied by the likes of Dopplereffekt, Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems and Joey Beltram.
Since then, Cisco’s acclaimed EP series has combined the best elements of Electro, Techno, House and Funk, consistently with a strictly dancefloor edge. The Advent have taken hold of the dancefloor and decoded its alien phunk scripture into their own sound system speaker shock blast. Promising all the original floor-shaking, teeth-grinding rapid-fire rhythmic changeups and dynamic crossovers, Cisco Ferreira delivers the Advent point home: quality kick down by means necessary.
Kombination Research was launched in 1997 the mission was to keep it 100% Advent style, and after departing from London records that year Cisco wanted to rebuild the love of music strictly for the underground masses, after 14 successful releases on Kombination Research the time has come to present a long player with the same idea as Shaded Elements. This project “Re Creations” released in 2003 will be introducing talent from last 7/8 years to remix all the past Ep’s on Kombination Research.

In slightly more depth, this is some proper proper techno. It's all about the control - a relentless kickdrum with swarming sub bass and that lovely splashy hi hat all transitioned in seamless fashion. I'd not heard of the advent before and was recommended this download by a friend on the strength of the 12"'s they've put out and was not in the least bit disappointed. It really is without question, one of the best mixes i've pulled from mpiii.
The only thing that lets it down slightly is that its been recorded or uploaded at quite a low bit rate so you can hear the digital scrambling or whatever its called slightly. that said there is good hi, mid, low and sub so its only in the quieter moments, of which there aren't many because this is really quite relentless, which isn't to say that its monotonous, quite the opposite in fact - more that the whole mix progresses beautifully but with the ever presence of an apparrent omnipitent kickdrum that stitches everything together.
download immediately if you like techno. not hard, not minimal, not ambient, not acid - its all of them - straight up no chaser techno toasted to perfection.
