Biography of Mathias Schaffhauser
Schaffhäuser's motto at the turntables is: Purism sucks and stereotypes are for squares. The quality of the music is whats important, not sheer functionality and a perfect mix. That is: at times his sets can be rather varied from Ware-style music to thumping techno, anything goes. His current favourite, which by many has been labelled electro house (still a strange label to me btw... ms), comes from labels such as Mobilee, Vakant, Gumption or Connaisseur.
Mathias Schaffhäuser has been roaming the techno and house scene since 1994 and has released tracks on Definitive Records (house sub-label of Plus-8), Blaou Sounds, Force Inc., Multicolor and Frisbee Tracks. In 1997 he started his own record label WARE which released 71 twelve inches until now (as of February 2007).
2001 saw his club hit 'Hey Little Girl'. In April 2005 he released his latest album 'Coincidance' (Ware CD 14/Ware 52). The title track was remixed by this season's high flier Trentemöller and by Dapayk (Mo's Ferry Productions, Dapayk & Padberg/Ware 54). December 2005 saw his 12' 'Lost Vox' with a remix by Pan-Pot, in febuary 2006 the next remix 12' 'more alternatives' was released with a mix by Audio Werner. Also released in 2006: remixes for Stefan Tretau (Broque), Renato Figoli (Gumption) and Crane A.K. (Force Tracks). Mathias has also produced remixes for Goldfrapp (Twist, Mute Rec.), Steve Bug (Lover Boy, Poker Flat Rec.), Misc. (The Magic Number, Sender Rec.), Frankie (False Start, Frankie Rec.), J.C.A. (I Begin To Wonder), Luomo (Tessio, Force Tracks/Force Inc.), Sieg über die Sonne (Im Not A Sound, Multicolor), Raz Ohara (Thisa Beautiful Day, Ware), Faust (T-Électronique, Klangbad), etc. Schaffhäuser's motto at the turntables is: Purism sucks and stereotypes are for squares.
