Biography of Antoine Clamaran
In the early 90’s, Radio Maxximum, one of the leading dance music stations in France, spotted Antoine Clamaran* and was impressed by his mixing talents and convinced him to spin in Paris. Quickly, Clamaran gained a huge following and succeeded French icon Laurent Garnier with a permanent residency at the Palace’s mythical ‘Gay Tea Dance’ every Sunday afternoon. Clamaran became a well known figure on the Parisian circuit and soon another “temple” of dance, The Queen, was asking for him.
In 1992 Clamaran, eager to get involved in production, teamed up with Laurent Pautrat. One of his first remixes, “Gigi L’amoroso” by Dalida remained at the top of the dance charts for weeks and Clamaran’s first production “I’ve Got Music In Me” by 400Hz made him one of the most promising French producers of that time. Record companies started to flood Clamaran with remixing requests including “Funky Music” by Calvin Stone, “Oxygene” by Jean Michel Jarre, “Party time” by Gloria Estefan, “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive and the European club hit “Encore Une Fois” by Sash. His own productions under the names Carayea, 400HZ, D Plac, Lac, Unchain & House Train were always at the top the DJ playlists but he had to wait until 1998 to enter the French top 50 best-sellers list with 3 club smashes, ‘Dreaming Of A Better World’,‘Peace & Harmony’ and ‘The Mission’.
By 1999, Clamaran had reached superstar status in France but he chose to pursue house music, his first love, leaving behind the commercial path laid out for him.
His first productions under his own name, “Do The Funk”, “Get Up” and “After” received the immediate attention of US based label Filtered Records and was released on the ‘Discoland EP’. The record became a “must have” for most of the world’s top DJs including, Boris Duglosch, Eric More Morillo, Pete Tong, Danny Rampling and Robbie Rivera* .
One of Antoine’s biggest fans, Basement Jaxx singer Blue James, wrote for him the hit single “We Come To Party”. The record, first released on Filtered Records, saw commercial release in more than 20 countries. From this point on, the filtered disco style of Clamaran, became an asset for the house community.
Antoine Clamaran* is currently the resident DJ at the three biggest Parisian dance clubs: Les Bains Douches, The Queen and Le Gibus.
You can tune in to his weekly show “ExtravaDance” on the No.1 French radio station NRJ
