Biography of Aeiou

Aeiou (pronounced 'ay-oo') is the musical moniker of Stefan Lewandowski, a graphic designer by trade, and part of the Birmingham-based agency 3form. Along with John Xela, he heads up the Type Records label and his individual style forms the backbone of the Type visual style.

As part of Default, the UK-based 'warm electronic music' collective, he is known for his experimental DJ sets. Not pandering to commercial constraints, he strays into the forays of minimal electronic music, exploring the output of labels such as 12k, Mille Plateaux and of course Type, mixing this seamlessly into the more organic end of the electronic sound spectrum.

The result is an unexpected marriage between music made completely by computers, and music made using live instruments which creates a sound that challenges our minds and is simultaneously pleasing to the ears, something too often forgotten in this area of music.

Comment: Very ambient-oriented set, with some classical and soundtrack like "Mulholland Drive" - Badalementi music. Could be a soundtrack for a imaginary movie. Good and relaxing. Especially in this hard times.

Comment: first half consists of melancholy strings, of the film score variety, then moves onto ambient soundscapes which reminded me of some autechre, only less caustic. über mellow indeed.

Comment: classically dominated and influenced. composed, very much calm and quiet music, not your typical ambient electronic set. worth checking out, i am not sure if he composed and recorded the sounds himself, would like to know that piece of information.

Comment: atmospheric at the start, as catherine says, classically dominated, with a more melodic, electronic finish, but still nicely 'ambient'

pity about the bitrate (64), but i didn't notice a drastic issue with sound quality.

Comment: Beautiful as usual. Wish the BR was higher, but still worth it. This set is a touch sad, good for thinking about the past for some....

Comment: A very melancholy classical feel best describes this mix. I must say I love the piano and there's plenty of it here in the first section. Around the 20 minute mark it moves in to a more ambient driven track selection as opposed to the classical touch. Retaining it's sombre aura throughout, this could easily be tracked to a movie of our generation. Albeit a strange one. Although this would be far from my favorite, it's definitely worth the download.
