Biography of Ida Engberg

Ida is the new pick of the bunch at John Dahlback’s imprint Pickadoll. Her breathtaking debut EP „Disco Volante“ is one of the biggest summer tunes of 2007. Ranked Top 20 in the German Dance Charts and even Top 3 in Belgium the gorgeous Swede is about to conquer dance floors throughout the world.

Ida has cut her teeth as a resident DJ at Stockholm‚s legendary Cocktail Club where she progressively advanced the sophisticated style of her sets. “I play deep house, tech house, funky techno, sometimes minimal and even some electro. Basically, everything that touches my soul! I'll always keep on playing underground electronic dance music”, she confesses.

Ida Engberg was born in a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden. Since then she has moved around a fair bit, spending some time in Marbella as well as in Ibiza, before settling on an island called Lidingö just outside Stockholm.

Eversince Ida started to select music there’s one question she gets asked time and again: “How on earth did you decide to become a DJ ... being a girl and all??” Actually, Ida never really decided to become a DJ ... It just happened!

“When I was 14 my first boyfriend was already DJing and I thought it was the coolest thing. He taught me to mix but it wasn't until I was 18 that I really started to play myself.” Ida’s first gig was as much as a surprise to her as to anyone. The resident DJ at a friend’s club was sick and Ida just happened to be there that night. 'On the spur of the moment I said that I could play! My friend looked at me slightly bemused and replied something like ’Yeah right’! I still can't believe I managed to convince him to let me play that night. It was great. I loved every minute of it!' A few weeks later Ida got asked to start playing at one of the most infamous after-hour clubs in Stockholm, The Spy Bar.

That was five years ago and a lot of things have happened since. Ida has played alongside distinguished DJs like Roger Sanchez, Damian Lazarus, Jennifer Cardini, David West, John Dahlbäck, Jesper Dahlbäck, Sebastian Ingrosso, Eric Prydz, The Knife, Jo Mills, Joel Mull, Aril Brikha, Anja Schneider, Özgur Can, Steve Lawler, Nic Fanciulli, Mistress Barbara… and the list continues.

Comment: Her production skills are solid so I thought I take a listen to her mixing skills and I have to say I was very impressed. This is the same set as the DJ Vox Podcast but with a better quality recording. Mix starts off kind of slow but by the middle and end of the mix its pure pumping basslines. Fans of Swedish techno should grab this!

Comment: Ida's set from Phonolabs is good but this set is even better . The choice of the records and the build up is more my kind of thing. I like it and I'm sure that it's worth a point and even more... When she has a gig near my place I want to be on the guest list.
