Cyrix started deejaying in the summer of 1995, playing commercial parties in various pubs in the city of Torhout. Residencies local clubs soon followed, but it wasn't until the year 1998 that he could play the stuff he liked most, at that time being a more clubbish sound than the tracks one heard over and over again in yet another chart show on the radio.
In 2000 Cyrix joined Redu[x] Remix Projects, a group that sets up techno/acid/hardtek-parties in the Ostend area. This was probably the first time where Cyrix could really show the public his true style: techno with a touch of electro. Up until now RRP does these parties on a regular basis.
Cyrix has always had a passion for electronic, not to say instrumental music: he was fascinated by music from Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk and other pioneers from the mid-seventies and eighties. Conventional ‘80’s-music inspired him too, being grown up with the likes of Mel & Kim, Wham!, Duran Duran and other artists who gave the 1980’s it’s typical, yet cliché sound.
It’s this unique cocktail of techno, electro and 80’s influences which won him Studio Brussel’s Switch/I love techno contest in 2003, allowing him to open the I love techno Outdoor festival for 10.000+ partyheads. Since then he performed twice on air in the Switch-broadcast, I love techno booked him again for their indoor edition in October, and he won various other contest allowing him to play at Kozzmozz, BBC and heaps of other places.
Thanks to everyone who stood by me these past few years, you know who you are.
