Biography of Big Joe Hix

Born in 1976 in a small suburb of Detroit, Big Joe had a front row seat to the rise of the techno and house music scene. Taking in acts like Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes, Derrick May, Mike Huckaby, Twonz & Richie Hawtin on a weekly basis.

In 1994 he decided to take up the art of djing. Buying a handful of records from a friend and two very old direct drive turn tables from Salvation Army, he began his quest to become a DJ and a DJ he became.

Starting with his first real gig at St. Andrew's Hall's infamous Three Floors of Fun, upstairs in the Burns room. Then moving on to such venues as the Packard Plant, Motor Lounge, and various underground warehouse parties. In 1996, Big Joe and two close friends started throwing parties under the name Twilight Productions and threw several warehouse parties; Melting Pot, Sample, and Floored to name a few. Twilight Prod. stopped throwing parties in 1999, but Big Joe continued to DJ. Playing venues like The Corktown Tavern, The Works, Proof, and holding a residency at Shelby Street. Basicly any where he could play he would.

These days Big Joe is throwin down a style of house that can only be described as Hot House, which also happens to be the name of the monthly house night he and three other friends (Tim Nobody, Lindsay Yeager, & Christos) host and have held residency at in Detroit for the past year and a half, pulling acts like Pat Nice, The Sound Republic, Justin Long, Slater Hogan, John Larner, & Dan X have made it the most successful house night currently in Detroit. Whether he is playing with the Hot House crew, or flying solo, Big Joe Hix is deffinatly a force to be reckoned with on the one's & two's and is truly a class act.
