Biography of Giessel
My name is Andrew Giessel. I was born, raised, and schooled in the great plains of Kansas, but have been transplanted to Boston for graduate school. My current academic interests involve modulation of synaptic transmission in the CNS, particularly cholinergic modulation in dendritic spines.
My other interests are pretty varied. Primarily I’m a music fiend; I did college radio back in KS and am starting to play out more around Boston. My musical tastes are pretty broad, but I tend to listen to beat based music (eletronic/hiphop/reggae/etc). I built a fixed gear bicycle last year and try to bike everyday, even if its just commuting to lab. I’m interested in ‘big ideas’, non-linear patterns and similarities across orders of magnitude/areas of interest. This blog is a sporadic, disjointed attempt to get some of this mental meandering out of my skull and in the world. I’m happy to talk to anyone out there… hit me up. If you’re in the Boston area, even better.
