Biography of Ned Shepard
As a Producer, DJ, songwriter, and musician, Ned Shepard has much to offer to the world of electronic music. He began playing piano at the age of 5, studying classical, jazz and blues. After spending time in Europe and hearing the sounds of Underworld, Faithless and Orbital, Ned was inspired to start writing his own electronic compositions. In the fall of 2000, Ned met Marcus Bacalis and the two formed Digital Witchcraft. The next three years saw the duo release several groundbreaking tracks, most notably “Fingerpaint” on Proton Music and The “Snowday” E.P. on Institution Breaks. Meanwhile, as DJ’s, their unique style of melodic breaks and electro-house moved dance floors from Montreal to Miami, as they played alongside top DJ’s such as Sander Kleinenberg and Desyn Masiello.
In 2002, Ned began working with DJ Sultan, and their first project, entitled “Strange Dimensions”, was released by John Digweed’s Bedrock Breaks label under the name Jiva. Since then the two have released over a dozen original productions and remixes on labels such as Swift Recordings, Release Records, and Pure Substance records. Their two newest tracks “Connected” and the guitar-laden “Together We Rise,” have just been released on Deep Dish’s renowned Shinichi Records, and were both included on Sharam’s highly successful “Global Underground 029:Dubai” CD’s.
In the beginning of 2007, Ned spent a month in the studio along with Sultan writing tracks for vocalist Nadia Ali (formerly of IIO). Together they are currently producing several tracks for her upcoming debut solo album. In addition, Ned has joined Nadia and Sultan on tour, with Ned playing keyboards and Sultan on guitars. The last few months has seen them play shows across the Middle East and Europe, from the Arctic Circle to the desert. In addition, Ned continues to DJ in Montreal and around the world, having already opened for top DJ’s such as Tiesto and James Zabiela, and is continuing to work on new solo projects to be released shortly.
Keep your eyes out for Harem Sessions, Ned and Sultan’s new radio show, to be aired quarterly on friskyRadio as platform to introduce their own label: Harem Records to be launched early 2008.
