Biography of Adam Beyer

Adam Beyer became dedicated to the fascinating world of rhythm early on. After playing the drums as a teenager his obsession turned to the decks. In 1990 he bought his first set of turntables and started spinning a wide range of hiphop, hiphouse, acid and techno at local parties and clubs. Beyer soon learned how to blend his sets in a thoughtfull and highly focused way, a talent that has now developed into his trademark style.

In 92 Fellow school friend Peter Benisch introduced Beyer to the sampler , a year later they got their first record deal with New York based Direct Drive. After finishing school in 1995, Beyer started work at the Planet Rhythm record store while releasing some tracks under a variety of names and continually djing all over Scandinavia. Adam Beyer sites Drumcodes 1 (Planet Rhythm 1995) as the first record to define his style; hard, percussive and loop oriented. This 12' names Beyer's future label and was soon followed by his critically acclaimed debut album Decoded (Planet Rhythm 1996).

His need to create the perfect dj tool gave rise to the launch of the Drumcode label allowing him total musical freedom. The label's strong concept and high production levels meant it enjoyed immediate success. After six releases Beyer launched his second label Code Red focusing on a slightly softer side of techno. Code Red finished with its 10 th and final release Stand Down (Code Red 1999) which was a compilation of remixes from various international artists.

His production skills soon brought Beyer to the attention of djs worldwide and global bookings soon followed. His meteoric rise has been cited as one of the catalysts for Swedish techno's current influence. He pinpoints the Stockholm sound as being closely linked to his network of friends in the city aswell as the triumvirate of himself, Joel Mull and Cari Lekebusch. After many releases and remixes on various labels he launched the second album Protechtion (Drumcode 1999).

While the market was being flooded with monoton loop oriented techno Beyer worked on strengthening the arrangements that characterised his earlier works, aswell as adding melodic strings. Still with a clear focus on the dance floor. The same year Adam Beyer and Cari Lekebusch linked up to create a stunning live act first witnessed in London to instant acclaim. The act created the intense feeling of a creative dj set while the duo played back to back mixing their production styles.

Comment: Saw Beyer in Toronto the night before this was recorded. He played alot of the same tracks which is just fine with me because this set is pretty sick from beginning to end. What else can I say? Beyer rocks!
By the way, if anyone has their hands on the Toronto Platform mix from Halloween this year please, please, please post it and let me know.

Comment: This is a quality set from the master himself, its 3 hours 50 minutes long, very good quality, and some really nice tracks, its quite minimal, but very good all the same, A must have for all Techno lovers

Comment: This is an amazing mix, it took me on a journey. The fact that it is almost four hours long is awesome and that there's hardly a dull moment proves why Beyer is an originator and still out bumping shows. I wish he would come to Minneapolis.

Comment: I've seen Adam Beyer a couple of times in Melbourne and he rocks. This set though is better than the ones I've heard live - it's pure minimal candy. I love it. It's Techno but upbeat and it absolutely has the Beyer mark on it. It's one of those mixes that you can't turn off and end up arriving late to places because you just wanna hear the next track.

Comment: Hmmm, well, I've always liked Adam's releases on Drumcode in the past and was fully expecting it to be abit harder, like the stuff from the end of the 90's.... but, I was a little disappointed in the end.

Granted, there's some really lovely sounding stuff in there, and for almost 4 hours he mixes it seamlessly, but that trip beat hard trance beat I don't like, and it starts to sound like he has a collection of the same records that he uses every hour in the same order, there's no high ground or low ground, build or breakdown.... :S Go back to the harder stuff, PLEASE !

After a while I ended up listening to it in the background of other things I was doing, could you not have gone the same path as Joey Betram ? I thought you were going to and I'm very disappointed you didn't. Signature sound ? hmmm....

Comment: The feedback on this speaks for itself. Comes in with promise, keeps it's word and delivers, before signing out with a bang. With obvious skills on the ones & twos, this set has been made with love - nice work!

Comment: I reallyl ike this set... the sound quality is good, it's very long (almost too long), and the song selection/mixing is very good. Great for a three to four hour long road trip. As mentioned before, there isn't any hard techno, but most of it is fairly deep with few to almost no vocals. Definitely recommended.

Comment: I'm impressed with Beyer's work here. I especially love the fact that it's about 4 hours long so it's very satisfying. The mixing is seamless and the track selection is top notch, of course. Adam Beyer is an asset to the minimal sound to say the least. I'm not sure what else to key except that this download is well worth a few listens. Enjoy!

Comment: So I have to say that I love Adam Beyer and some of his sets are pretty epic. This one is two hours long which is cool and the audio quality is excellent. It's a large file which means that it is sampled at a higher bitrate than most Techno sets.

I thought that a lot of the tunes were quite weak though. It's one of those ones thats good if your at the club but it kinda bumbles along for the first hour getting warmed up and then doesn't get as heavy as I usually like. It's kinda like Richie Hawtin's sets that seem to have little purpose about them sometimes. It's worth a listen but I don't think it's Adam at his best by any means.

Comment: Definitely one of the highest ratings to be handed out thus far! Beyer is by far one of the best minimal dj's in the world and continues to pump with every set! This is a four hour beauty that can be listened to over and over again!

Comment: Yeah Adam Beyer is a professional, man. I love the fact that it is like 4 hours long too. Pretty minimal stuff though, which is really sweet on a really nice system so you can hear all the little nuances of the music. I liked it a lot...

Comment: One of the Best sets I've heard by Beyer. ;) It's also at least one of the best sets I've ever heard. From the first minute to the last, there are only wonderful hard techno tunes. *.* There are not many men who are able to play nearly four hours of murderous tracks, one after another.

Comment: A very cool mix of tech and electro sounds from Beyer. This is certainly one of the longer mixes I've downloaded from MPiii at 3:48:32. Throw this mix on at midnight at your house party and the guests will be grooving all night. Def recommended as a mix :)

Comment: Great set! Amazing track selection, sublime minimal/detroit style. Although I kinda miss the rolling/thumping bass which have been the Drumcode signature for the last few yrs. "Mister Awakenings" rules
