Biography of Zoe Xenia
ZoëXenia began her music career from a young age, as a singer / songwriter with various rock bands in her teenage years. That is, until she first heard housemusic.
Caught by this new sound, and longing to be more than a singer in a band, she began to develop her own electronic style as a producer - a hybrid of rolling bass, mysterious soundscapes and funked-up beats.
She uses her voice not only as vocal, but instrument itself, keeping her firmly on the avante-garde tip. 'I like to improvise and try things with my voice, it's an instrument I carry everywhere; like recording myself having the hiccups, and making some fine rhythms with it.'
First approached by Musika Tremenda to sing/mc alongside dj's in a club environment, she now performs as an mc and electronic live-act at festivals and parties throughout Europe, with the likes of Mike Grant, Jamie Anderson, Gene Farris, Amê, D'Julz, Justin Harris, Benny Rodrigues, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Radioslave e.a.
In 2003 she performed at the downtempo-electronic finals of Diesel-U-Music Benelux, became a dancefinalist at Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2004 and was selected for the RedBullMusicTaster in 2005.
ZoëXenia is also an ambassador for Dance4life, an organisation that is devoted to inform the youth about prevention of hiv and aids and throwing danceparties in more than 10 different countries throughout the world to help raise money for the Aids foundation. A personal highlight of 2006 was her performance standing on a high pillar before a huge crowd in Gelredome stadium on one of their events.
Her first EP came out on ArtMiniMal spring 2007 and was followed by a release on Organised Music for which she was invited to come and play at WMC Miami. A split ep together with Estroe will appear on Connaisseur Supérieur in October. Other releases for this year are planned on H9records, Remote Area and Pacha Recordings.
Advancing and refining what house music can be, and collaborating with different artists on stage, are the inspiration for what ZoëXenia does. Equally important is how she brings that to the dancefloor.
On stage, ZoëXenia has remarkable presence. With her powerful, soulful voice, and her ability to produce sounds as if from another planet, she weaves together a hypnotic, ecstatic experience for the listener; an exchange of energy that dissolves boundaries, where music becomes a universal language.
