Biography of Marcus Stork
I was born and raised in a suburb in the southern parts of Stockholm and got influences of electronic dance music from an early age, back in those days I was listening to a lot of different styles of music: Hip Hop, Disco, Funk and the early sounds of Techno Pop.
In the late 80's I became quite into the sounds of House and Acid House, especially after listening to a local radio show that was playing the latest dance music. I heard classic tracks like Stakkers 'Humanoid' and 'Can you feel it' by Mr. Fingers, it was about this time I really started collecting 12' records.
If I should mention any artists that I have been influenced by I would say most of the legendary Detroit producers, people like Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, Mr. Fingers, Robert Hood along with Europeans like Luke Slater with his fantastic Planetary Funk series on Peacefrog, Dave Clarke with the Red 1-3 Records and of course the electronic sounds from my home country.
During the years I have been through all kinds of electronic music, and that also shows in the way that I spin. Altough my main style is funky Techno with a deep touch you I also hear me playing a mixture of Tech House, Detroit, minimal and more straight on hardgroove techno. I try to see my sets as a musical story.
I want to give the crowd music with soul, from my soul, not just playing like a machine. With many years of DJing behind me I have performed all around Sweden and other countries in Europe, like Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Slovenia and Spain.
I started DJing in the mid 90's and I would say my career progressed quite fast, after playing around in clubs and other events in the Stockholm area. In a few years me and my childhood friend Nick felt that we wanted to do some-thing more, so in 1999 we decided to start a record label, Armalyte Records, we took the name from our old favourite c-64 game armalyte. Later on we also started up our Physical Soul label as we felt that Armalyte was holding us back a bit, this label was designed for more deep and soulful sides while Armalyte keeps it's well known pumping sound of Techno. Sadly Physical Soul lost its life when the distribution firm Integrale went down.
In the year 2005 Armalyte is ready for a comeback after a 2 year delay, now with a wider range of influences than before. My own music production is mainly focusing on Techno of various kind. The released work can be found on labels like Thomas Schumachers Spiel-Zeug imprint, Holzplatten and Armalyte Records. Working mainly from my home studio in Stockholm.
I have released my work not just with my real name but also as Hardform and Groove system, Co-op with Eric Prydz.
