Coming from a tiny town in Michigan where country and heavy metal reign supreme, Andrew seemed destined to own a pickup truck and grow a mullet by the end of his teenage years. Thankfully, his college liberal arts education paid immediate dividends because he was introduced to the sounds of the Lords of Acid by a roommate on the first day. Using an intriguing new invention called the 'Internet,' Andrew soon discovered the glorious realm of electronic-influenced music by artists such as Skinny Puppy, Meat Beat Manifesto, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Massive Attack, Amon Tobin, Squarepusher and Autechre. A Kalamazoo rave in 1997 gave him the first sweet taste of a party without a hip-hop or 80s soundtrack.
However, it wasn't until his post-graduation move to Chicago in 2000 that he fully discovered the dance music scene. Upon entering Crobar for the first time, his eyes were opened to a whole new loud, sweaty world and he was immediately hooked. Through dedicated clubbing, Andrew honed his musical tastes at a superhuman rate and eventually befriended other purveyors of fine music: a group that we now affectionately refer to as the NBFC.
Having an opposite sleep-wake cycle as normal people with day jobs, Andrew adopted 'Antiphase' as his DJ name in February of 2004. He makes up for his relative inexperience behind the decks with impeccable taste, variety, and unnerving charm. Heavily influenced by Sassmouth and Hazmat, Antiphase is very fond of the minimal side of house and techno, Detroit techno, alien electro and old acid tracks. But you're also just as likely to hear more bangin' techno and some jackin' house cuts. His number one goal: provide a good time.
