'I’m not the type to just sit there and listen, I want to be involved,' says Kristina Childs. 'The first time I heard this music, I knew I wanted to play it.' Starting in 1999 with a mixture of house, techno and drum&bass, Childs quickly evolved her style into the eclectic mix of genres she now brings to clubs and parties around the world.
As well as being a guest DJ at many clubs in the Seattle area, Kristina has performed in Frankfurt, Bogotá, Medellin and various major US cities, sharing the stage with such notable artists as John Tejada, Joel Mull, Dan Bell, Mike Grant, Akufen, Minx, Bassnectar, Brian Aneurysm, Lusine, Jeff Samuel, Thomas Fehlmann and Marcus Nicolai. She is a resident of Tost Lounge and Krakt, runs Plasmodium and is the Sponsorship Coordinator for Decibel. Her diligence in the Seattle scene has made her a popular Northwest DJ, combining excellent track selection and mixing skill with the energy and charisma it takes behind the decks to get dance floors moving. She is known primarily as a techno DJ, however you can hear her play everything from ambient to hip-hop, downtempo, electro, disco, new wave or funk, depending on the venue.
Childs was introduced to electronic music in 1995, but being involved in the punk scene, she remained a closet technohead until her first party in 1998. It was then that she was introduced to deep house, and was sure this music would become a fundamental part of her life. It did, and within a year she was playing parties and after-hours within the Seattle area.
Lately she has found a renewed vision to expand her production skills. 'I still love everything about playing records, and I doubt I’ll ever stop,' she says, 'but now I want to share my own musical interpretations. I love many other genres, and plan to build my skill and do something interesting with it.' So her spare time has been spent in the studio, refining her sound and collaborating with other northwest artists. Her debut release was last year in the form of a vocal appearance on the Take compilation.
