Biography of Richard Sen

London-born Richard Sen started Djing in 1989 playing a backroom alternative selection of breaks and house at The Crazy Club at The Astoria and The Limelight. In the early nineties he regularly played at the mad Sign of the Times parties and guested at such highly regarded clubs as Sabresonic and Bloodsugar. From 1996-97 he co-ran The Fun Galley at The Clinic, operating an eclectic music policy ranging from disco, house to techno and electro. He also had a monthly night at the legendary Disgraceland pub in lslington. By 1998 he had taken up residency at The Heavenly Jukebox at Turnmills, moving on to Metalbox at the Annexe.

Richard currently plays an original style of sexy house, techno, electro, and breaks, regularly spinning in London at top clubs such as: Fabric, The Gallery at Turnmills, Big Beat Boutique, 333 Old St and The Dogstar. He also guests all over the world including Brazil, South Africa, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and most recently completed a month long Australian tour. An indication of how successful Richard has become was his nomination for the Best New DJ at the Muzik Awards 1998.

In '97, Richard and partner Paul Eve, collectively known as BRONX DOGS released the critically acclaimed singles 'Tribute to Jazzy Jay' (Kontraband) and 'Madame Mars' (Heavenly). The next couple of years saw the release of two more singles on Marble Bar records - 'The Weya Funk' and 'Mixed Blood' a huge tune that blew critics away and consolidated their position as one of the best new dance acts around. A compilation album of all their work to date was released on Heavenly Recs in June 2000 called 'Three Legged Funk'. Bronx Dogs have also remixed tracks for Saint Etienne, Wamdue Project, Jungle Brothers, Sugarhill Gang and Sizzla. While Richard has done solo remixes for Lamb, Regular Fries, Glasgow Gangster Funk, Headrillaz, Newcleus and the underground cult classic 'Closin In' by Ninebar on Marble Bar Recs. 2001 saw a change of sound for the dogs and a single 'Enviro' taken from their debut album of the same name, became a leftfield breaks classic. The album was released in April 2001 on Marble Bar Recs and received very good reviews from both press and DJs.

Richard is an ex-graffiti artist and was heavily involved in painting trains in London in the mid 1980s. He now uses his talent in the music industry and has created cover artwork for Sabres of Paradise ('The Theme' and 'Smokebelch') and for Heavenly, Wall of Sound and Bronx Dogs.

Paul Eve has recently emigrated to Oz and left Richard to carry the Bronx Dogs flag alone. Forging ahead by signing to Illicit, Richard has started recording a new album with the first release (a cover of Bush Tetra's 'Can't Be Funky' featuring Gram singer Sam Lynham) being promo-ed this summer.
