Merrick Brown is known for his diversity. Hailing from Austin, Texas, his dj sets and production work range from hip hop, downtempo to broken beats and future jazz to deep house, tech-house, techno and electro. Owner of two record labels, and an accomplished graphic and web designer , Merrick is quietly forging his vision of the future.
In early 1998, Merrick launched Tektite Recordings with an EP of his own material. Focused on cutting edge techno, Tektite is now up to it's 12th vinyl release. The label was featured in URB's Next 100 for 1999, and has had tracks licensed to compilations and mix CDs by Richie Hawtin, Frankie Bones, Pascal F.E.O.S., and Swayzak.
In late 2000, Merrick co-founded Chalant Music to release house music from artists around the globe. With five releases and an artist roster spanning 3 continents, Chalant is quickly achieving massive underground support. In addition, the Chalant promotion team has hosted a series of club events , featuring some of the finest talent to perform in Austin.
As a dj, Merrick has appeared in Germany, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, Cleveland, New Orleans, Wisconsin, Iowa, Portland and Florida--in addition to countless performances in Texas and the southwest. He has played alongside such acts as Truby Trio, Charles Webster, Jazzanova, Koop, Soulstice, DJ Rasoul, JT Donaldson, Lance Desardi, David Alvarado, King Britt, Josh Wink, Diz, Gemini, Hipp-E, Halo, DJ Tony, DJ Heather, Casey Hogan, Alexi Delano, Stewart Walker, Derrick May, Kenny Larkin, Surgeon, John Acquaviva, 'Evil' Eddie Richards, Asad Rizvi, Mr. C., Boo Williams, and many more..
